Online Bullying Due to Low Status, not Misogyny

quote:
This suggests that men behaved according to a social hierarchy. When they were performing poorly – i.e. they were lower status – they did not challenge a male-voiced teammate, but they did challenge a female-voiced one.
This was supported by our results exploring skill level –- our proxy for an individual’s position in the hierarchy. Skill level didn’t affect how men behaved towards another man, but men lower in skill were less positive in the female-voiced treatment.
quote:
Interestingly, higher-skilled men were more positive towards women, but not men.
The take-home seems to be that, just like bullies, the men most likely to have their position in a hierarchy usurped by a woman turned out to be meaner.
i would imagine this evolutionary/cultural psychology is behind all the issues that silicon valley have with gender inclusion. computer programming is becoming more popular but is still seen as a beta/weak interest and hobby. this leads to a self-perception of lower status, which injects this paradigm in the mindset of the majority of programmers. add in the fact that it's not that popular with females, and you get a bunch of low status betas socializing without many girls around.
these scenarios show a slice of the modern, progressive feminist wave. it's kind of in conflict with the modern "transgender" movement, as the Big Left is promoting the concept that gender roles and identification involve these very choices. the modern feminist want a society where there are no such gender roles and identification and every possible interest or industry has equal representation (in the general population and power structure) by sex.

Well no shite. But regardless of their low status, it's still misogyny when it matches

dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against women.

it's not misogyny when it involves status more than gender. i'm sure that those guys rip on lower-level males, too
that's how hierarchical status works

It's part of the game during threesomes. Submission is for the willing.

Do you feel like your status on TD fell some when your name and picture leaked?
Posted on 7/17/15 at 8:34 am to SlowFlowPro
I think this board is proof that men of low intelligence hate women.

a. i don't care about my OT status (that was teh meta joke with kafka, which i'm sure he got)
b. my picture and name have been floated since i joined in 2004. at multiple times in my posting i've had my actual pic in my avatar and/or sig. i came from a forum wehre pics and names were common, and it blew my mind how people were so guarded here

Gotcha - I don't mean that as a slight BTW. But I did always picture you as some "local kid made it huge" and you were posting from a Manhattan law office where you were about to make partner or something wearing a $5000 suit with your hair slicked back Gordon Gecko style

Wrong. Pectus hates chicks and he's pretty smart.

ETA: is hardlegging now a sign of higher status? Also, wouldn't these findings seem to suggest your general attitude about women on the OT stems from low status?
