I'm a computer programmer. Actually I manage them now but that's only in the last 3 years as opposed to programming for 10 before that. I don't know about all that bullshite I just read and will have to drink away later but I do know this:

1.) In my experience male programmers white knight hard for female programmers.
2.) In my experience female programmers don't program for long. They end up becoming project managers or managers.
3.) The really good female programmers I know have heavy geeky interest. They're well respected.

I do agree that software development is still seen as a geeky/hobby interest. It's not standardized yet like being an engineer/lawyer/doctor. It's a very young profession. It has come a long way though.
