I haven't lived in New Orleans for years... but was it always like this in the area around Bourbon? I know you always had to be careful not to get mugged, but I don't remember people getting shot there like they do now.

Last night, I drank some EH Taylor Bourbon after dinner. Really makes you think.

Mango makes a damn fine slice of pizza after drinking all day in the quarter.

that's all you got? nothing more than an ad hominem attack to defend your big city existence?
I expected better from a cosmopolitan sophisticate such as yourself.

I remember back when people said ‘These things don’t happen in the touristy areas. Just stay out of the dark alleys and NO East and you’ll be fine’.

Now it seems like people are getting shot in touristy areas regularly.

Shot by thugs, shot by cops, stabbed by thugs, run over by drunks, randomly punched by thugs (sometimes with fatal outcomes), etc.
We’re talking about incidents within a relatively small area, too. It’s a shite show.

My parnets used to take us down to the Quarter, during the day as kids back in the 80's and they would stop in a bar for a drink or 2 and we would hang out on bourbon and feed the pigeons and tip the street entertainers. That was normal for a lot of people at that time.....nowadays, no way Jose, you cant do that shite

I was in the qtr last night around 6:45 walking down royal with some out of townwers I was taking to dinner and mayhem broke out after a guy was shot in his car on bourbon street. Total freakout ensued.
Now someone gets shot in broad daylight on Bourbon.
Really embarassing.

Last night a cop shot someone for failure to comply
Today a crazy drunk shot an employee because the employee told him to leave and she wouldn't flirt with him.
The shooting a few weeks ago was a domestic dispute and it took place in a courtyard behind a restaurant
The shooting with the nurse that was killed... that was really bad.
So, one out of four?
