Maybe someone can help explain this to me. There's a concert coming up at Golden Nugget that I was interested in seeing so I did a quick search for a hotel room and they want $500 for one night in a regular room. Just for comparison I searched to see where else in the world I could stay for cheaper than the beautiful resort town of Lake Charles.

Hilton Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa
Bora Bora Pearl Beach Resort and Spa

The Ritz-Carlton New York
Loews Regency New York Hotel

ARIA Resort & Casino Las Vegas
Four Seasons Hotel Las Vegas
The Venetian Resort Hotel & Casino Las Vegas

Hilton Waikoloa Village
Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows

Are people really paying these prices or are most rooms comped for gamblers?

Supply and demand. I am sure you could get a hotel nearby for a very reasonable price. They know their rooms fill up during the big concerts, they can charge whatever they want.

There are a dozen hotel rooms less than 1/2 mile from the casino as very good rates. The casinos charge that because that's what the Texas folks are willing to pay.

Not really though. OAR concert had a lot of comped tickets (old people wandering in) and wasn't even completely full. That's just the going weekend rate at both the Nugget and L'auberge. And yes, they do fill up.

Holy shite. I tried to get a room for a customer a couple of years ago for a concert at L'Auberge and they wanted like $350/night and I thought that was outrageous.

It's like this for the golf too. I guess the Nugget doesn't want the SW LA low rents on the course either.

My room is always comped. They also hold rooms in case high rollers request one at the last minute. I asked for a room once and they said they were full then I gave the girl my players card and she booked me in a room right away.

...subtle brag

They've priced me out, I'll stick my wiener in a meat grinder before paying $500 to sleep in Lake Charles

I could rent an apartment for a month there and it would be cheaper.

You wouldn't catch me dead in that apartment. I was paying $950/month for a one bedroom 6 years ago.

Not right now. You couldn't even get a portable building rigged to be a home in one of the new lovely man camps for $500 per month.

you're missing the point....It's fricking Lake Charles.

Lake Charles, Shreveport, Monroe, and Slidell is like the 4 corners of the devils a-hole
