The height of a fall which results in death 1/2 of the time (known as LD50) is 30 feet if falling onto grass/dirt. If he fell onto concrete, or other hard surface, the probability of death would be much higher for a similar fall

Heard a call released from someone at the hotel calling for paramedics talking about a guest "drunk and on drugs" smashing up his room and they were afraid for his safety.

People don't know how to fall properly, apparently. Also age has to come into play. He's 31 and presumably in pretty good shape (not fat or injured). I think I'd live from a 3rd story balcony (which isn't the top of the 3rd story) if I had to jump and was trying to survive, albeit with some serious lower extremity injuries. Another variable is that not levels in buildings are the same. Could've been 40-50 feet, which is a different animal. Also if he was wasted maybe he just went splat.

I think this guy just ended his life intentionally.

Did that hotel have European style numbering on the floors? The ground floor doesn't count because it's public space, and often a floor above it is also called mezzanine , and then comes the first floor.

If the video I saw was him falling it looks like he might have been trying to hang from a door or window that was swinging out and he fell. The video wasn't the best but if that was him he landed on cement.

I don't know much about Liam Payne. However this has been all over my FYP. I dunno, being on vacation with your wife doesn't seem like the place you chose to commit suicide, and from a 3rd story balcony? That's something you could survive.

Seems like an accident. Or a snap-second decision while on drugs, as I heard he did have a substance problem. Either way very sad.

If the accounts and pictures are real, there was alcohol, drugs and paraphernalia scattered across his room. The story I saw is he was suspected to be high and drunk and passing out in the lobby and they had to escort him to his room.

High likelihood he stumbled outside and fell over the rail or in his impaired state tried to climb down or jump to the pool.

Sad story, but he definitely seemed like one of those tortured soul artists that was struggling with huge success early in life and floundering a bit as he got older.
