On January 14, 1699, Massachusetts observed a day of fasting for wrongly persecuting the “witches” of the earlier period. The state formally apologized for the whole mess 258 years later, in 1957. In 1988, 300 years to the day after her hanging, Boston City Council proclaimed November 16 as “Goody Glover Day”. Apparently, we can’t be too hasty about these things.

When religious zealots have power, watch out. They are so convinced in their "higher calling" that they will commit all manners of atrocities and not blink an eye.

I think this is true of political zealots as well. Communists have snuffed out the lives of their own people in the name of "progress" for decades. The 20th century is a good example of that.

Absolutely, And now “Woke” is the hot, new religion.

They should apologize, everyone knows you don’t hang someone for that, you burn them.

Religious and political zealots are the same people. They just have a different circle of influence.

I wouldn't argue with that, but people always immediately jump on religion as if it's the cause of zealotry. In fact, I think religion gets a bad rap, while communists don't get nearly enough hatred.

I’d argue the exact same for when anti-religious zealots have power, even more so actually. They have a real axe to grind, and don’t care about your Constitution when it gets in their way or they can manipulate it’s original intent to benefit their agendas. The days of seeing if she sinks or floats are long gone, but the days of alienating people of faith and their faith in public life are alive and well and growing.

The prosecutors of the witch-hunts were some of the most educated men of the period. They were Harvard educated. The local pastors and leaders were highly skeptical of the witch claims.

I think this kind of “fervor” is common among the “experts” of any field, especially if they are positioned so that no one dare question them.

Just in time!

And you're posting on a mostly Louisiana/Southern US board. No way most people on this site can go a whole day without eating.
