Monday, the family's agony over Blackmond's death, in a horrific crash on the Causeway last week, turned into anger when they learned the woman accused of causing the crash was released on a $126,000 bond. "It's a slap in the face," said Blackmond, "It's like somebody sticks you in the heart with a knife and continues to twist it and laugh.
Welcome to Lousiana.

She isn't free. What bothers this woman is that if the shoe was on the other foot, they wouldn't have the funds to get out.

I don't know what the standards are for bonds. However, I can't help but think that $125,000 is very low for someone who just killed someone and has three DWIs. It seems to me that she poses a legitimate risk to society with her actions and should be held in captivity until she has her time in court.

I don't even understand the point of bonds. Is it simply to make money? Don't you get the bond paid back when you go to court? It seems that if someone is dangerous, then money shouldn't matter and they shouldn't be let out period until the trial.

the Endymion driver (multiple injuries but no deaths) is still in jail
bond set at 525000
first offense DWI plus negligence etc

That is absurd that his bond is 4x on a 1st DWI, what hers is on a 3rd when she killed someone.
I know it's a different parish, but damn that's ridiculous. Attractive chick gets the special treatment. Pathetic.

correction
bond was originally 125000 now 550000
obviously many more charges than Olivia matte, but still first offense DWI and still didn't kill anybody. It may not be comparable due to escalation of bond for each count, but still...he's in jail and Olivia is not

Rizzuto was initially booked into the Orleans Parish Prison on four charges, but this week NOPD added 22 more. Rizzuto, of Ponchatoula, is now facing 26 charges: 12 counts of vehicular negligent injury, 12 counts of first-degree vehicular negligent injury, hit-and-run driving with serious injury, and reckless operation of a vehicle.

But knowing of many people who got their third dwi and knowing that this is JP, she will get off. She will probably do probation, a drug court program (where you attend outpatient rehab attending 5 days a week and attend at least 3 AA meetings a week, while drug testing, while wearing an alcohol ankle monitor), MADD meetings and she will be fine afterwards.
People who are saying that she will just get off, this isn't just a 3rd offense DWI case. The minimum sentence for vehicular homicide is 5 years without benefit of suspension of sentence, probation or parole.

assuming they don't offer her a plea
not sure what kind of discretion the DA has though since she was definitely impaired and the victim is definitely dead
