If true, Uber gonna have to start cracking down. They're gonna need to institute even more security features than they do now. Yes, you can verify an uber now, but do you think drunk chicks in college are going to do so?
It’s really not that tough at all to find which is your car
This should be on the people not the company
The app has the license plate number, car type and drivers face on it
And even when you get in the driver always says your name

She hailed in Uber. She got into a car, believing it was an Uber. She was murdered.
So she didn’t go through the correct steps of checking 3 of the things the app has on it.

I realize that but people are lazy and some people get embarrassed walking around the car checking license plates. Some people aren't confrontational and don't want to ask someone their name. Alot of people are very trusting. Especially kids.
Doesn’t seem like Uber’s fault

There has not been anything to suggest she got a ride with Uber.
That is just speculation by the board detective.

8 times. It's the 8 times that doesn't make sense to me. It takes rage to unload 8 into someone, not ot mention the fact that it was done to a female.

Question, are these fake uber drivers successfully getting their vehicles to show up on the app??
Bc, from experience, the uber app gives you the name of the approved uber person picking you up, along with details of the car and license plate......
So if the car picking you up doesn't match the app....you don't get in....
I mean it gives you the color and make and model of the car, that alone (even if you don't check the plate), should work.....
So I don't understand how the fake uber cars work??

i too am perplexed by the whole fake uber situation. every time I've done it, which is admittedly not a ton, the app has been very clear about the vehicle. if it says white toyota camry, and a black jeep cherokee rolls up, nope... not my ride. if the driver doesn't greet me with my name, as well as have the same type of car the app suggested, nope, not my ride. Unless they are somehow tapping into the system as suggested by someone else, i just can't see how this happens, or that its ubers fault. there aint no coincidence where a fake is able to guess my name, and have a remotely similar vehicle he is supposed to be in. if they are hacking the system somehow, then yep uber should be banished to hell. otherwise, you just got to have a little waking around sense.
RIP to this girl... awful story. there are a few that deserve that treatment, but i doubt she was one.

I can see how it happens, i have gotten on my wife about this before. She will be on her phone not paying any attention until a car rolls up right in front of her and she just gets in assuming that it is her Uber. I have seen women do this a the airport as well. Last week when flying into LAX I watched a girl probably in her early 20's play on instagram until an Uber rolled up. She went to get in the car until the Uber driver asked her what her name was, then she realized she was getting in the wrong Uber.

There is no way it was a fake Uber driver.
How is a fake Uber driver going to make a pick up at someone’s house? Think about that.
A fake Uber driver’s only chance would be to pull up in front of a bar or something at closing time when multiple people are outside waiting on an Uber.

If you drive something like a Camry around a college bar area or city bar area between 11-2am it wouldn’t be that hard. It’s all about statistical probability at that point. Not saying a fake uber would work every night or all the time, but think about how many opportunities you may have in a weekend in something like a Camry. It only takes once.

Try not doing that shite whilst getting a car outside Reagan National Airport (or of the like) when your app says Ameer is you driver in a Black Altima and there are 7 of them sitting there...you damn sure look at the plate.
