Stupid act, but why would the Justice Department Civil Rights Division get involved?

Probably bc they shot a stupid sign. It’s really not that big a deal. The outrage is unwarranted. It’s just a sign.
No, it’s not. That’s like saying Auschwitz was just a prison.
For millions of Americans it is a symbol of the civil rights movement and a reminder of the evils that can be done when racism is allowed.
It is definitely not just a sign

Nope. Still just a sign. Not a big deal. Outrage of the day that will be gone by Saturday. How the frick is this news when in the same city a pregnant chick was shot 8 times... people to get their priorities in line.

I’ve passed by this sign numerous times in the last 5-6 years and every time I notice that the sign has been shot at.
Is it stupid to pose by this sign with firearms and then post it in Instagram? Yes, but is there proof that they shot the sign? What if they were out riding backroads drinking and came across this sign that was shot up? In their drunken city boy logic, maybe they thought it would be funny to take a pic with the shot up sign in BFE and the guns that were in their truck.

Easy. They’re both shown on the news and they’re not mutually exclusive. What kind of stupid reasoning is that?

It started with MTV reality shows and continued with social media and "influencers" like the Kardashians. It doesn't matter why you get attention. The important thing is that you do get attention.

You're one simple fricking piece of shite if you think two stories can't come from the same place at the same time.
Go play in traffic.

You’re then sensitive pussy getting bent out of shape over a fricking sign. Drown in your tear.

Nah. Just gonna watch the news. Where they show more than one story. Sorry Mississippi is so behind.

Try to have a worldview outside your own. Emmett Till's murder was one of the most brutal acts of racism in American history.
Just because you don't care, that doesn't change history.

How the frick is this news
Because it is pretty damn offensive. It's funny how you say it's just a sign, then acknowledge it's big news.
Maybe that's because you're the one with the ****ed up historical context.
I don't know if these kids meant it in a genuinely racist sense, they might just be that stupid. They couldn't have picked a worse "sign" to do this with, though. Emmett Till is as uncontroversial an example of horrifying racism as you get.

Also, I would like to know the overlap here between "It's just a sign!" and "Statues are our history!"

Those dumbasses probably think he played RB for the Cowboys

I'm not a defender but have never heard his name before this thread.

Channon Christian/Chris Newsone case was pretty brutal
