Older OT'ers - How much do you really care about your credit?

I'm older, live in a nice $400K home that will be paid for in less then 15 years, have a few credit cards with great lines of credit.
All these young guys at work trying their hardest to get their credit rating up even 30 points.
I have two red light tickets I never paid for and never will. All these guys are like, "gonna show up on your credit", etc.
I really don't care, all my major life purchases are done. What will a non payment of a $100 ticket do, lower my credit 50 points for a couple years, so be it.
Any of you old farts feel this way as well?

You picked a Sunday night to start this thread? The older OT people are already in bed

Ditto! Done the work to get where I'm at now(retired). Not going sweat the small irrelevant things now!

Will be purchasing another truck, as my current vehicle is plagued with a series of engine problems that is becoming too expensive to continue with.
So I care atm. I've never touched a credit card, nor will I.

Don't obsess over the number but I am mindful of it because of business lines of credit..etc.. As long as it stays in the 750 range give or take, I don't care..

We are actually in the market for a new vehicle right now, probably going with the Volvo SUV.
Am I worried about my credit? No. We are probably putting down 25% and getting 1.9% interest with credit union, because we have done so much with them before.

I believe credit is vital in the year before purchasing a home. After that, a responsible person should not worry.

It's definitely a perk when going after a vehicle.
As for everything else, if you've payed most everything off minus a few small things here and there, then screw it, you've hit the sweet spot in your life where the work finally pays off.

I am 61, have no idea what my score is, have no debt, and no reason to ever have any again. I understand how credit scores affect things like insurance premiums, but I never think about it. I have only checked my score once in my life, 5-6 years ago online. I got my first bank loan at 17 for $600.00 to buy a car, my mom co-signed, got an American Express card after college that, was my total credit history when I got my first mortgage at age 28. I don't think creditors were allowed tell you your score back in the day, and with no internet it was just a mystery, you either got the loan or you didn't. Over the last 30 years I have gotten mortgages for eight houses with no problem, and good rates. Never played any credit boosting games, simply paid my bills on time and never over extended myself financially.

Not quite your age but close, nor do I have the house purchases you have mentioned but have done the same as far as pay my debts as agreed to.
Last score that I saw four years ago because of a consign for my son was 820, no reason to believe it has been lowered any. I do not check my score as they advertise you should.
Edit to say Im a poor considering the OT baller status here but do live modestly, within my means. And to say frick the Jones', I hope they can have the means to pay for whatever they want.

So you plan on dying before paying it off.
You're right, frick your credit.

I had to move a lot and the houses were very modest. To clarify, I have looked at my credit report as they say you should to see if there is anything inaccurate, but I only use the free reports from the actual credit agencies and that doesn't give the numerical score. I have a pretty nice house, but I drive a used truck and 15 year old jeep, wear cargo shorts if the temp is over 40 and could not care less what anybody thinks. That leaves me with a good bit of money to do interesting stuff unless of course my wife gets the money first.

All trucks are used if they've been driven.

68, retired, and credit score only dipped below 800 because they say I don't have enough debt. I need to borrow more so they can see I can get credit?
kind of
system do they have??

I'm about half your age and face the same problem. I have been told to just carry a credit card and use it every now and then.
