Older mostly outdoor cat suddenly won't walk across open spaces

14 year male cat, outdoor cat (I don't like cats but this is a damn good cat) all of a sudden won't walk out into open spaces. He walks on the edge, as if he needs to be close to something to get his bearings.
He won't cross a room - he'll skirt around the edges or furniture.
Doesn't seem to be in pain.
Any thoughts?

I've thought of that, and I wonder if he's had a stroke?

losing his vision, have you had him checked for cataracts?

Either take him to a vet or quit worrying about him

He's going to the vet Monday. I'm letting him hang out in the house and eat some good food. I have a feeling that this is likely his last hurrah.

Is he losing his vision? He might be using the walls as barriers if he can't see well

He had a mild stroke. Very common in cats.

Eyes gone bad, so he stays near objects?

14 is old. He probably ly doesn't want to get picked off by that hawk that has had its eye on him
