I find it fascinating what people did back in the old days before the advent of modern medicine at your beck and call. My grandfather swore by a teaspoon of sugar and three drops of turpentine for getting rid of parasites and body cleansing. I’ve actually tried elderberries and honey for the common cold, and I’ve heard many of the old timers used to loathe their regular dosage of castor oil their parents would give them for prevention and what ails them, but what other recipes have you heard of that people once swore by as treatments, prevention, or cure all’s?

My dad mixed bourbon, honey, and lemon juice and gave me a spoonful for a cough. It worked

My ol Granny would give us a spoon full of Vick's salve, even though it says right there on the label not to take orally.

Yep, forgot about that. Parents used to use a dose of brandy I believe to ease teething.

Had an aunt that did the same to help stop coughing .... at least she would put a couple drops of hot water and some sugar on the spoon.
