This happens all the time. Cop finds substance, and his field test indicates positive for drugs. Well, the shiftiness of the field tests combined with cops not using them correctly results in lots of false positives.

Person gets locked up with high bail set by tuff on crime judge. They can’t post bond, and trial may be years away. This ain’t TV, so the crime lab may take months to accurately test the substance, So they take a plea and hope to get out soon with time served, parole, and good time.

Some jurisdictions never test the stuff at the crime lab if there is a plea. Others have started testing at the lab even if the person has plead guilty, and that testing has found several cases where people pleaded guilty when they were 100 percent innocent but just wanted out of jail ASAP even if it meant becoming a convicted felon.

This is why you don't listen or why you don't talk. Nothing good will ever, and I mean ever, come from it. That goes for anything. Even if you're stone cold sober, never, ever submit to a field sobriety or breathalyzer. Deny both and don't talk. Just go to jail for a few hours.

Of course always be cordial and cooperative, just say no to any tests, searches, etc and say absolutely nothing.

Are cops really stopping people for not having rear lights on their bicycles?

I’m in favor of bail reform.

It's very common for cops to stop cars on the interstate for bumping against the white fog line.

The cops will admit they don't give a shite about the minor violation, but it gives them a legal excuse to stop the car and maybe get consent or enough cause to search the car. The Supreme Court says the stop is good even if the traffic violation was not the cop's real motive for the stop.

Changing lanes without signal and following to close are other favorites. The cops seldom actually go around writing tickets for these offenses. The drug interdiction cops just use them to see see what those folks are up to in their Texas rental car.

I mean I "get" corruption, stealing money or drugs to sell from evidence room, and that kind of stuff but this shite is just evil.

Plenty of evil people out there.

And they lie or embellish all the time to get convictions.

Automatic suspension of license in WI and a number of other states I'm sure.

Called implied consent. To acquire a drivers license you have to consent to sobriety testing. Refuse the test and your license is suspended.
