Not me. I can speak my tribe's language. I'd make it to the west coast.

There's oil in Pennsylvania. That's where oil was first drilled in the U.S. No need to worry about getting scalped to become John D. Rockefeller.

Pennzoil. Their logo has the freaking Liberty Bell on it. You never got that?

the tools you would need to make the farm equipment and and firearms has not been invented yet because the industrial revolution has not happened yet. Not belittling your idea because I had the same though, but while I could figure out the machine working to make the products, I have no idea how to make the machines that make the products.

I would say patent the ideas to make the factory machining capabilities and partner with someone with working knowledge of engineering to rake in those royalty checks.

I'd get in on the lumber action.

That's kind of what I meant by understanding the manufacturing processes. I couldn't do it, but I think it could be done. You probably couldn't make some of the reactors we have today, but could make something that would make individuals harvesting cotton obsolete.

Use my knowledge to build tools to mine and become a commodities baron. If I control all the natural resources I can control everything. Also build bigger, better weapons.

Would be one of the most outspoken people in the country against slavery, people of the time would think I was a massive libtard for my stance on the practice when in reality I was just a modern day racist time traveler who didn't want the inevitability of the practice to occur in that timeline. I would die being mocked endlessly for my beliefs as people of those times really gave less of a frick about protecting the social justices of others and more about their own propagation and survival.

This or in your scenario if we couldn't travel back to reep the benefits of our changes, I would be a full on proponent of the system of that day and try and profit as they did.

I'd get in on the marijuana.

I'd make it to where it could never be demonized, I'd show all the uses that can come from hemp and all cannabis.

Baws could come in from offshore and fire up on their back porch without worry.

I would have to learn me a few things before traveling back.

I could invent the steam engine, the bessimer process for making steel, the internal combustion engine, smokeless gun powder, and the air plane.

There was gold in NC and GA, and in fact there were gold rushes there before the one in California. Gold there would be more easily accessible.

Or I would build a practical steam engine or cotton gin. They were developed a few decades later, but the technical knowledge and ability to manufacture them was already in place, it just would take someone to put it all together.

This was my whole point of posting this. We know in our minds what we could do to be rich/famous but most technology or tools were not available. Could you create anything not having the right tools at your disposal? Could your current day knowledge have made anything different? Could you have made a difference ? judging by the responses so far not so much

The ancient Greeks knew the principle behind the steam engine, but never used it for anything more than toys. I read an alternate history timeline whose point of departure was the Greeks putting steam power to practical use. It had humans colonizing the planets by the 1700's.

Change it to 1776. Invent the cotton gin early and take that money and buy Louisiana before the US does.

Want to steal Eli's thunder, eh?

But seriously. The best job would be predicting shite. Like elections, natural disasters, events etc.

People would either start bowing and shite, or nail you to a cross.

Or both.

Cotton didn't become king until the early 1800's so in 1700 Id be in the tobacco business.

When I was between 12-14 years old I actually did this numerous times. My results were mostly

1. I died of either dysentery or syphilis
2. my oxen died fording the river, and I died later on
3. I spent too much time hunting and could never carry all my meat and I later died.
4.My whole family was raped and killed by savages and I died of hunger
