you possess the resolution. "New Year" in this case is just describing the type of resolutions.

My New Year (acting as an adjective) Resolution is to lose weight.

Technically both your way and my way or correct. Your way just doesn't flow when speaking.

Without a doubt, New Years is wrong.

Type them into Microsoft Word. My way is right, the other way isn't.

The resolutions belong to this new year.

So...

the important thing to note is that the holiday itself is called New Year's with an apostrophe. using this logic, imagine you're making a resolution for a different holiday. you'd say "an Easter resolution" or "a Christmas resolution" or..."a New Year's resolution".

unfortunately lnchbox is correct, and he will remain in this thread berating you until you agree or stop responding.

Think of it this way. Is the day called New Year's Day or New Year Day?

After answering that, you have the form you should use.

No I didn't. Both are acceptable. You clearly don't know grammar, so I'll live without being credible to you.

Well forgive me for trying to get educate someone. Seems like the stubborn person in that situation would be the one that is wrong yet continues to argue.

because the holiday is called New Year's Day (the possessive Day belinging to the new year). in this case, the 's is the only correct way. byt the resolutiions do not belong to the year so new year would not get a posessive (or even a plural years)

I see what Lunchbox is saying too. I just never annunciate the S on Year"s" when talking about resolutions.

No it's not. Why are you even trying to argue this? Just because you don't pronounce the "'s" doesn't mean it shouldn't be there.

The resolutions belong to the new year.

Hence, it is New Year's Resolutions.
