Fuel hasn’t exactly been expensive for 5 years.
Right? Fuel is regularly less than $3 a gallon. That's about in line with inflation. If you need a few gallons of gas and can't afford it, your best bet is to sell your vehicle and hop on a bicycle.

You do realize that there isn't anywhere near enough energy available within the US from renewable sources to meet the energy demands of our country? Maybe 1/4 at best. We would destroy our economy and financial security if we tried to completely switch over to renewables because the vast majority of these sources need substantial govt funding to be viable. Also not sure if you have heard but the US is as energy independent now as it has ever been thanks to private investment and innovation in domestic O&G.

Do you not consider the subsidies the oil industry receives as government funding?

We are energy independent bud and well on our way to even greater efficiency with the shale revolution.
Also, there aren't many renewable energy technologies that could cover the entire us. Only works in certain areas during certain seasons.

Thanks Obama
Neither Trump nor Obama have diddly-shite to do with the oil market.
Technological innovation has brought millions of barrels per day to the market. This has created a supply glut. Simple as that.
