Screw whoever dug up his real identity and made his life hell, regardless of what he posted on an internet message board.

I don't see anything wrong with attempting to level the playing field.

it's all public. maybe he should've hidden his identity and not posted about cases.

His spokesperson resigned today and the judge issued a no comment.

Staying on the campaign would have been career suicide for the campaign manager. And the "no comment" says it all.

He can hold any views he wants to, it's a free country. But he didn't spend much effort hiding who he really was. And so saying some of the things he said was dumb. Plus discussing cases has to be an ethics violation.

He may be a good guy IRL, but I expect better behavior and judgement from an elected officer of the court.

What in his post history made it so obvious who he was?

This LINK, found on the first line of the OP's link, gives the more detailed sleuthing info. But as Rag said, the person digging may have had a nudge in that direction and just found posts to back up who he thought it was.

One of the articles linked spelled it out. They had to dig a little, it wasn't all in one post. But he disclosed where he went to undergrad, law school, and that he was a judge in Arkansas. That's all it took to put it together, he was the only judge with that background. He also talked about his daughter, and made it easy to figure out who she was. I'm sure she's grateful.

Why? If you're ok with people knowing who you are on here, you should be smart enough to watch what you say. I wouldn't have done it but it certainly doesn't surprise me that there are people out there who would.

only thing i can think of is that he posted about his kid getting a scholarship to play ball at lsu.

other than that you would just have to know the cases that came before him. i mean really know them because he kind of described a few in terms of what each side was doing and where he was.

i guess when people have it out for you, they can dig up anything and make a big deal about it

My actions are not indicative or illustrative of the conservative political philosophy of which I hold dear.

It is a shame that the politics of personal destruction take precedence along with the win at all costs mentality that results in the disjunction.

At this time, in light of the pain I have caused to my family, friends, supporters, the Judicial Branch, and the public, I have requested that the Secretary of State remove me from the ballot.

I would ask you to respect my family’s need for privacy so we can being the healing process of forgiveness.

"Maggio had to forgo seeking re-election to his circuit court seat, which pays around $140,000, to run for the Arkansas Court of Appeals. He's been a judge since 2001. He was unopposed for the state's intermediate appellate court until Friday"

He was unopposed for the state's intermediate appellate court until Friday, when Bart Virden of Morrilton, a district court judge, announced his candidacy. He'll be unopposed now. Filing closed Monday. Virden was likely aware of Maggio's growing troubles when he filed, though they had not been made public then. He has avoided commenting on them.

I wonder how long Virden was planning to run. His official announcement was timed too well to be a coincidence, IMHO.
