Maybe the pilots pulled a Capt. Sully on the ocean and the plane sank intact.
Even then stuff would float up. It's been enough time that something would turn up.

It is a huge ocean, and the scale is immense.
Like a hundred pages ago I posted an image about the scale of the plane.
I couldn't find my post or the link, but this bar graph will suffice.

I wasnt referring to a fire situation just a power outage or failure.
It's virtually impossible for a Boeing 777 to suffer complete power failure. This has been discussed numerous times here.
And furthermore, if there is a fire big enough to take out all of their systems, it's not going to fly on for 7.5 hours. It will fall to the earth rather quickly.

Let's talk about shooting down planes in a post 9/11 world.
Let say that a 777 leaves Atlanta headed for Denver. At some point the plane turns off it's locators, loses communiction, climbs to 45,000 feet, and turns 90 degrees heading directly for Chicago. Does this plane get shot down? How long would that take?
So lets look at MH370. Were there any targets that would need to be protected in the mainland of Thailand along the plane's new course? Then past that point, which countries could have seen this unidentified plane on their radar and taken action?

First thing's first, the U.S. would scramble fighters to intercept the airliner and do everything in their power to deter the flight from reaching its destination without shooting it down. Only as a last resort would our fighters shoot down a passenger jet.

If they couldn't establish communication after having fighter jets alongside for a little while, they would take it down. And it would be over a rural area.

May be wrong because I don't really keep up with the 9/11 info, but wasn't there a command that the Penn crash flight was to be shot down?

Not 100% sure, but I think it had been mentioned that the planes were in route to find it and the call would have had to be made.

According to the 9/11 Report, President Bush did not give the military authorization to shoot down hijacked aircraft until 4 minutes AFTER United 93 had crashed. Military commanders, fearing an accidental shoot down, never passed the order from the President on to pilots in the air.

So I guess that is all the proof needed that an order would happen. Would think that the kinks have been ironed out...then again it is the government.

Why are people buying this fire theory so easily?
There's tons of holes in it

Not being a aviation expert I'll revert to you as to why.

theres tons of holes in any theory and one of them is bound to be more or less true.
if we ever end up with answers there are almost certainly going to be a couple "wtf" moments along the narrative.

A group of fishermen, tuna fishing off the coast of Malaysia that night, claim to have seen a very low-flying passenger jet heading west just before 2:00 in the morning. What makes this eyewitness story intriguing is that they reported their story to the local police several hours later after hearing the news about Flight 370.
LINK
If true, it gives credence to the fact that whoever was flying Flight 370 was flying it well below normal altitude, around 5,000 feet, in an attempt to avoid radar detection.

We had heard about these guys last week, right?
I believe their story vs the Malaysian governments.
ETA: You watch video?

In the original report didn't the fisherman claim they saw it before 1:30 am? Also the fishermen were on line with the path of the flight out of Malaysia so if the plane didn't return to its original course how could it have been the same flight?

Also...Boeing 777 pilots are very skeptical about the fire theory posted a few days ago on Google+
quote:
In an interview with Business Insider, Michael G. Fortune, a retired pilot who now works as an aviation consultant and expert witness, said pilots preparing to change destination "would have communicated their emergency and intentions to turn around, as well as ask for assistance and direct routing to a suitable airport from the air traffic controllers very quickly."
Fortune, who flew 777-200ERs like the one involved here, said pilots follow a specific procedure when there's smoke or fire in the cabin. He didn't buy into the idea that the transponders would have been turned off in an attempt to deal with the problem. "The checklist I utilized for smoke and fumes in the B-777-200ER does not specifically address the transponder being turned off," he said.
quote:
Steve Abdu, a 777 captain for a major carrier, echoed Fortune's point that there's a clear checklist to follow in this kind of situation. And, he pointed out, it's unlikely smoke would have knocked the pilots unconscious or killed them — because they have oxygen masks.
Each pilot has a quick-donning mask, and putting it on is step one on the fire checklist. It covers the full face, even if the pilot wears glasses, and can be put on in about two seconds. "These masks are quite excellent at protecting a pilot from smoke and fumes," Fortune said.
The masks are impressive. Pressing clips on the face part inflates the harness; letting go deflates it.

I think if I were a terrorist, and the plane was stolen, I'd have a boat somewhere out there in the ocean dumping a bunch of suitcases, clothes, seat backs, etc. etc. into the water.

That would be a great start and draw tons of attention
Could even crash one of those scrap 737s on the cheap to really frick things up
