If you look at the blue outlined squares. You can follow the line back to a symbol that shows some local waypoints.

You tune the VOR to the waypoint signal and if you were to tune the radio to that signal you would get the Morse code signal next to the name to confirm you keyed in the correct waypoint.

It's all from the pre-GPS days.

also the large magenta circle is the transponder limit. All planes inside the circle have to have a transponder on.

I am not sure what to think about this. I am surprised by:

1. General public's lack of knowledge/concern.
2. Government(s) inability/unwillingness to find it or divulge information.

People seem either obsessed or don't know or care. Governments seem to be working at odds with each other instead of together.

Maybe this is just my simple and inaccurate opinion.

So what possible scenario does this most support? I have been trying to follow all of this but am admittedly confused at this point.

So if all your normal instruments that you use to find your way from point to point went dead, you could use these old waypoints to try and find your way somewhere?

yeah

So the heading to each of those points has to be manually set correct? So someone was flying the plane.

actually you can set autopilot to follow VOR waypoints.

To me, it means either:
A. Everything Started shutting down on the plane and he turned around to go back the way he came, using waypoints and got lost
B. Someone hijacked it, turned all tracking devices off and attempted to drive the plane to a secret location but didn't make it.

You have to realize that the majority of Americans are probably only interested in their next Facebook post, where they are going to eat/drink tonight etc. We are not an intellectual curious society in general. We are also narcissistic to the bone so if it doesn't concern I, me, mine we really aren't that interested.

But there would have had to be a way for them to communicate with ATC, right?

It implies that someone deliberately entered the specific waypoint coordinates for the plane to follow.

Not saying you're wrong, but I don't think there is evidence that those points were "Entered" into anything.

I think the common thinking as of now is that they caught random blimps on radar at times that would be constant with someone following those waypoints.

Correct me if I'm wrong

Followup: And would entering the waypoints be the only way for them to coordinate if they shut down the transponder and anything else that could be tracked?

I think one will be able to figure out exactly how much this is likely a highjacking/pirate operation by how much military hardware the US is willing to dedicate to it in the Indian Ocean region.

The zig zag route has been confirmed? Or is it just saying they were detested by those installations but could have still been flying towards where the USA Kidd is on the map?

nothing has been confirmed. The US says it believes a plane flew that track.

I think the governments working at odds comes from trying to tiptoe around hurting Malaysia's feelings. They should have the lead in this since it took off from their airspace and got lost the second it dropped from their radar. So we have a possibly incompetent group of people leading the way who don't have the technological wherewithal to lead the way. Then you have the big peen countries who want to help but maybe Malaysia has little peen syndrome and doesn't want our help, so they keep us all in the dark.

Do we know how much fuel would have been burned if that path is somewhat correct? Is it continuing on and being landed somewhere still within the realm of possibility?

add "and things really went bad electronically" to the end of A and we agree pretty spot on.

I think the only way anyone was going to able to establish contact once the systems "went down" would be with a zack morris phone.
