Gotcha, would have always been weird to fly that.

Btw, I don't think TigerFred made his flight. Should someone start a new thread?

Maybe there was depressuration and loss of some electronics. Pilots and everyone on board lost consciousness. This happened after pilots tried to turn back. Pilots came to somewhere over the Indian Ocean. Plane didnt have enough fuel so they landed it in the water.

I don't understand why all this info is just coming out. Have they known this the whole time and just released it to the media? I don't think so.

The U.S. is probably very cautious in letting out details on just how much and how well they can track ANYTHING in the sky. If they're saying that they "suspect" that the plane took this course, and suggesting that Malaysia should concentrate a search of this area, you can pretty much bet that they were monitoring its flight path. That plane will be found - intact or not.

Rolls Royce might not have picked up any further telemetry from their engines but that does not mean the US NSA didn't. That may be the problem here. The US can't very well come out and say "oh yeah, we know the plane went out over the Indian Ocean because our spy satellites can monitor data links beyond the ability of commercial systems and we found telemetry from MH370 no one else has.

The beacons in the "black boxes" will send out signals for at least a month.

Either event by itself would be highly unlikely but both occurring make me think it was hijacked or diverted intentionally. I wonder if the system that transmits the ping back(black box?) after the crash can be deactivated before crashing the plane so that it can't be located? Although I don't know what the rationale for that would be?

Would not happen on a Boeing 777. The wind flying past them would generate electricity on the plane in case of a catastrophic systems failure.

Not likely. It seems the comms systems were turned off systematically instead of a sudden occurrence

The only thing that makes sense to me is some sort of hijacking.

All other scenarios require waaay too much coincidence

Think he's talking about the generator that drops down beneath the plane incase of electrical systems failure

I think the 777-200ER is equipped with a "windmill"-like apparatus called a ram air turbine (RAT) that deploys from the bottom of the plane when a loss of electricity is detected. The RAT provides the plane with enough electricity to power the on-board computers.

Anything interesting or worth noting come out today? I've been too busy to keep track the last couple days.

Would assume the rat is deployed by a conscious crew; assume knocked out from hypoxia would prevent it.

Oh I gotcha. I thought he was referring to the wind whipping through the depressurized cabin after a catastrophic event.

The Boeing 777 has redundancy after redundancy in regards to its critical systems. If the primary systems were to fail, the Boeing 777 has an emergency back up system that would keep everything running normal. If those were to fail as well, the Boeing 777 is also equipped with a ram turbo engine that converts wind power into electricity.

In short...it's virtually impossible for the Boeing 777 to lose electronics.
