Which makes me think it was hijacked and kept intact for a much larger operation.
If they wanted a plane to use for something later, there are easier and quieter ways to acquire one, though. Everybody on the face of the earth will be looking for this 777 until it's accounted for one way or another.

That could explain why there was no distress signal, no homing beacon activated, no black box signal sent out, and no distress data sent to the airline. Because the plane never crashed to begin with. It was hijacked and successfully flown to land.
It would be difficult to land in a populated area with a real airport and conceal identity. Some jungle strip long enough to land a 777, if there is such a thing...maybe. I'll be shocked if it ever touched ground intact.

If that's the case, I would think that some country will soon figure it out, considering all of the countries that are currently involved.
I'm not optimistic though.
Considering the region and the makeup of most passengers, if a hijacking is the case you would think that someone would have been able to call out. Everyone has a smartphone today unless they're from a third world country.

it's very possible that a hijacker could have landed the Boeing 777 in an undisclosed location for use later on.
I just wonder what happens to the passengers in this scenario.

Fortunately I do not know how terrorist organizations operate.
You would think they have bigger and better things to plan, unfortunately.

Or perhaps the pilots were complicit? I hate conspiracy theories but I'm at that point now where they start to make some semblance of sense. Flight 370 apparently wasn't wifi enabled so these passengers wouldn't have had a clue as to where they were flying. Plus the early morning nature of the flight would suggest that many of them were sleeping when whatever happened happened.
If the plane was hijacked by the pilots, and if the plane was carried off to a non-disclosed location, the passengers probably wouldn't have known about it until they were on the ground. By that time it would have been too late for them to call out.

My belief from the beginning is that this was a hijacking gone wrong.

I just wonder what would have happened to the plane in this scenario. It takes a lot of space to land an airliner of that size.
If that plane landed somewhere... well, some government knew about it.

unless something went "wrong", during the hijack.

Just thinking out loud, here...
Who's within the operational range of this aircraft?
Who has the ability to hijack a plane, land it on a sufficiently large airfield, and keep it quiet and hidden?
Who has nuclear capability, but no reliable system to deliver a weapon to its target?
Who's batshit crazy enough to try something like this?

A plane going nose first into the ground at high speed, such as a 777, would leave a relatively small hole in the ground and may be hard to locate in a remote area. There wouldn't be much in the way of scattered debris.

yea thats very possible. Saw that during 9/11 with one of the flights. Depending on where the wreckage (if there is any) is found we should know if it was a hijacking gone wrong.
keep in mind most of the passengers would have probably been asleep.

He's crazier than his dad, but I think that he knows... well, if he did something like that and it was found out, particularly since most of the passengers were Chinese citizens, he'd be fricked.
I don't think he's that insane. He knows that without China he's, for lack of a better term, and in the words of Leonard Hofstadter "attached to another object by an inclined plane, wrapped helically around an axis."

While the passengers may not have noticed anything was wrong, the flight attendants surely would have right? Especially if most of them fly the same route day after day.
Posted on 3/13/14 at 1:04 am to cabinuga
Yes, the flight attendants would have known.

Oh that's without question the first logical thought. But lets say the plane is landed somewhere...then what? Kill everyone? Hostages?
I don't know I guess I'm just thinking/wondering out loud at this point.

I don't think that any of us want to actually know what happens in that scenario.
With a plane of that size... you can't just land it in the jungle. It's a monstrosity. It requires major airspace.
If it was landed, a government knew about it.
