But would there be a need to see clean airspace regarding a red eye flight over the gulf of Thailand?
That's really a non-sequitur. The transponder is just an electronic box that feeds a radio beacon with a dial to change the number and an on off switch. There's no functionality that would keep you from turning it off. It's just a box with a switch.

I don't think they are going to find the plane...the longer this drags on, the more convinced I am that it will not be found. Pieces of it might wash up on a populated beach somewhere, but I don't think they locate the majority of the plane.

I don't think the plane will be found anytime soon, especially the more the search moves over to the Andaman Sea.

It's truly amazing how dumb these people are!! How do you lose the first piece of evidence unless they wanted to... Hmm?!!

Even if the raft sank, why don't they get divers to search the floor for it?

If it ditched into the ocean, I just cant get around that a passing ship or another plane would have seen some debris by now. Its a heavily used waterway from what I understand
The further from land, the less likely for anybody to see anything. If the plane ditched under some kind of control, it might have stayed (ETA: relatively) intact and sunk later. In that case, there's a good chance of survivors. If it broke apart during a long descent over water - there would be a huge, but sparse debris field, some of that would float, some wouldn't.
if it augured in to the ocean, it would be a small debris area, initially, but certainly the currents would have dispersed it now - it should be obvious to any search team remotely in the area.
The known unknowns of this are intriguing enough - once you start adding in the unknown unknowns - good fiction cannot even compete with it.

3/12 Chinese Sat Find
Looks like reports are that Chinese identified three large objects via satellite analysis. I would imagine it will be tonight our time until daylight over there when these can be investigated.

Late Mar 12th 2014 China's State Administration of Science (SASTIND) reported, they discovered three large objects sized 13x18, 14x19 and 24x22 meters at position N6.7 E105.63 (121nm eastsoutheast of the last known secondary radar position), all three objects within a radius of 20km (11nm) and published the satellite images, taken on Mar 9th 2014 at 11:00 Beijing time (03:00Z), see below. SASTIND stated they are committed to provide further search services to locate flight MH-370.

Those chinese sat pics were taken 3 days ago. Why would they not have checked them out till now?

SSW of Ho Chi Minh City in the South China Sea.
Very close to the last contact point.
(Within 75 nm - at least my best estimate with the resources I have)

This is the area. I wish we could access more recent satellite images

The whole transponder thing is just puzzling to me. It just screams of some foul play on the aircraft
Same here, since the transponder can be turned off.

Maybe took them that long to get them analyzed by their intelligence agency and decide to release them.

I guess that might be it; I'll bet they have that confirmed by tomorrow morning.

Well divers probably can't go that deep, would have to take a submersible
