A former Chicago aviation security officer who was fired after dragging a man off a flight last year has filed a lawsuit against the airline and city. James Long is suing Chicago's Department of Aviation (CDA), its commissioner and the city, alleging he was not trained on how to use force. He was sacked after removing David Dao from the plane last April to make room for United Airlines employees. Video footage of the incident sparked international outcry on social media. The ordeal led to demonstrations at Chicago's O'Hare International Airport and turned into a public relations disaster for United Airlines.

Mr Long and three other security officers were placed on administration leave after the incident. He was fired by the city in August, the lawsuit claims. According to the complaint, filed in Cook County Circuit Court on Tuesday, Mr Long claims the airline should have been aware that calling security would result in "the use of physical force".

He also alleges that although he completed five months of a police recruit training programme, the department did not provide training on the "level of force continuum", according to the Chicago Tribune newspaper.

Well, its pretty self explanatory that you don't beat the crap out of an elderly man, even as a security guard.

Victim mentality.
"Nobody trained me to know it's not proper to injure and drag an elderly person off a plane. It's not my fault!"

So he's suing bc he's stupid and blaming them for it......that's an original approach I guess

quote:While your statement is true, This Asian guy is not an elderly man. He was a con man. And look if the airline tells you get get off the plane, get off the damn plane. Who cares why but you are fricking up the trip for everyone else. It is there plane, so get the frick off when asked and you would be beat the frick up and drug off.

It seems United ultimately disagreed with this sentiment.

Well, it’s worked in product liability cases.
That’s why you have idiot warnings plastered on every product known to man.

quote:no he is sueing because he was hired to do a job, they called him in to do a job. Guy wouldnt get off the plane even when physical force was threatened. Physical force was used. Airline gets blasted on tweeter and they fired a guy for doing his job.

This is correct for anyone who reads the actual story but this is the OT and facts don’t fly here.

Perhaps they should have taken it to court. Seems like a good business move for them.

I agree with him. He's supposed to switch back and forth between being a cop and a personal security officer for the airlines worrying about customer satisfaction. The cop in him just wants to beat some arse.

I hope he wins. Corporations need to have some cajones and quit giving in to social media "outcry."
The guy needed to be physically removed.
