Recently interested in getting into the watch game. How can I be sure this is real and not just a really good fake?

I like it but don’t want to get ripped off. There’s a lot of really good knock offs out there. It’s an online dealer which is probably why I’m a little hesitant.

Buy it from a reputable place.

You've gotta have the internal movement verified by someone who works on watches and knows what they're looking at (the movement, serial numbers, etc)

Have it shipped to an AD for verification

So you want to get into the game by buying a Piguet

A really sought after watch like that I'd almost have to assume it's fake unless conclusively proven otherwise.

You need to get an AD or even AP directly involved to verify. One of the bigger grey market guys, davidsw for example, I would trust. But anything else needs to be validated.

I got a Hamilton field and a tag aqua racer just saw it and like it. You got any suggestions on what would be better than making the jump to AP?

Going from a Hamilton to an AP is wild

I’ve got a Hamilton and a Tag. My big jump was an Omega while I was on vacation. After that I went with an Oris and haven’t had the itch to buy another watch. I’ll probably get something nice again but not for a while.

Yeah definitely fake it’s listed for a little over 8k nothing else even in that ballpark from what I just saw on davidsw. Thanks billjamin.

That purports to be a RO 15400, I have the same watch in blue. Even the black one is a $35-40K watch now on the secondary market.
One can tell a fake from a real one looking at the movement while it is hacked in a couple of seconds (the movement is visible), I won't detail this because I don't want to be part of someone making a $40k mistake.
Unless this is coming from a trusted source, I would lean toward brick and mortar only for someone that can't authenticate it themselves easily. If you really want a 15400 get in touch with DavidSW and pay the premium for the peace of mind. If he doesn't have a black 15400 in stock he can find one. You may want to look at whether you want the 15400 or the newer 15500 with the higher beat rate 4302 movement. I am 50/50 because there are a lot of aesthetic features I like better about the 15400 (along with the fact it is thinner) but the 15500 has the better movement...arguably. But the rotor in the 15400 is SOOOOO much cooler.

Posted while I was typing. That is FAKE as hell. You could sell a real one to a dealer for $25k in a heartbeat assuming it is in excellent condition and with full kit.
