our class had rented the Hot Wheels skating rink for the party and a few motel rooms at the Days Inn on Monkhouse for the after party, got home about dawn and my dad was not letting me sleep, told me to get my arse up and out to work... construction work, it was miserable

We were at the State Quarterfinals in Baton Rouge, lost on a Saturday and had to be at baccalaureate service the next morning. I was really hung over.

I don't remember graduation that month, I know I was there but was pretty wasted. We stayed out partying for a week or so.

I'll cut people some slack. When you think about these kids went through school during covid you have to be happy for them and some people cry cheers of joy.

I know a guy who's a regular heterosexual who cried when talking about co-workers sons cancer. I know a regular straight dude who cried at church when his son accepted Jesus Christ.

I know a lady who cried at a supermarket opening and at a Culver's when a kid with autism celebrated his birthday.

That sounds like an awful job.

I don't think I've ever seen a group of teachers that are happier than they are.

For real? That town is awful, the school is literally in the shadow of the paper mill, and crime is so bad in the town that opposing football teams refused to play there. How can teaching there be a good thing?

My dad didn't attend any of my graduations (HS, Undergrad, Grad). When I asked him why he never did he said that it should be expected to pass your classes and it's not something to celebrate.

So there are opposite ends of the spectrum.

Lots of parents crying. I don’t think out of all graduations I have ever attended seeing parents crying in public for a high school graduation.

I’m not knocking the parents for showing emotion or anything like that, I just thought it was odd to see this.

Probably due to the realization that the kid is at least 4 years from being off the payroll, is entering the most expensive phase of their lives for the parents and won't even be around to harangue into cutting the grass or doing the dishes for 4 years...

Because 95% of the kids are well behaved. Keep in mind that you’ll never hear good news, it’s always bad. I’m not sure what the papermill has to do with anything. I rarely smell it when I’m in town, it just happens to coagulate in a certain area if you drive through town on 21. Crime is cyclical everywhere, and particularly bad during a bad economy. It ain’t great but it’s a lot better than some shitholes in Louisiana.

The parents must have been so happy their child reached the pinnacle of their aspirations. Sad.

Parents will cry at every stage of life for their kids.

Going to kindergarten, starting to drive, HS graduation, college graduation, etc.

Heck, sometimes you see parents of kids who have played a HS sport for 4 years crying at the end of that last game. Definitely is emotional for the seniors.

Crying and such is fine. You are proud of your kid. Mom is feeling the empty nest. What I can't tolerate are these parents that act an arse because they need attention on a day that is about other people.

I went to my 11 year old daughter’s dance recital two weeks ago. The number of moms yelling stuff like “Get it girl” while their girls were dancing was pretty shocking. I mean none of these girls were above 18, maybe just a handful at most.
