It is not. The basis of the work done is from a 2014 paper from a journal of endocrinology. Again, your individual testament isn't a dispositive example of the metabolic state of people after weight loss.

Would you be able to share the paper? I'd like to give it a read if you don't mind. This sounds interesting.

The conclusion of the study stated this

quote:

This metabolic adaptation may persist during weight maintenance and predispose to weight regain unless high levels of physical activity or caloric restriction are maintained.

Metabolic slowing with massive weight loss despite preservation of fat-free mass

1) I’m not sure why is is unexpected. Your body is going to work harder to burn calories if you are lugging around 300 pounds as opposed to say 215. It’s going to work harder to keep you alive in general.

2) In order to lose weight, you have to make a lifestyle change. If you drop a ton of weight, then think I can stop working out or relax on calorie restriction, things are going to spiral out of control again

3) I actually agree obesity on a large scale, will not changed on an individual level. That doesn’t mean for the most part, it is an individuals choice to be overweight. But to get a large percent of the population to lose weight, by changing their lifestyle is unreasonable. There are too many people content with “eating tasty food” as opposed to eating food with nutritional value.

Sure, but you understand that the metabolic features of the endocrine system work by feedback mechanisms, correct? The issues aren't strictly thermodynamic, as the nutritional content of food matters in metabolic terms, in a meaningful way. People, in general, who lose weight require excess energy balance to maintain their weight versus those who are 'naturally' at the same weight, as a function of body energy demands. Even further, there is long-term persistence of hormonal changes after weight loss that are fairly resilient, such as persistently decreased TSH, which curiously increases only after leptin administration.

There's a complex biochemistry at play, and the reason for the weight gains have to do, at the molecular level, with meaningful changes in food processing that effectively ensure obesity will reach pandemic proportions.

you say all of this, yet when we perform studies, once you equate for protein consumption....the only other thing that matters in terms of bodyfat gain or loss is simply calories.

and only reason protein matter so much is due to dietary induced thermogensis.

so all the bull shite you want about hormones this, hormones that, but it doesnt work like that in the real world.

I am overweight, but not a fat American. I have a simple weight loss plan:

Eat less and move around more.

I think the point he’s making is that the average American is to dumb/lazy to change their eating habits and because of this the only way to really curb the obesity issue in this country would be through some type of medication

well that may be true but all the ones in the thread who claim hormones this, hormones that, processed this, processed that......they are just way way overcomplicating the issue. same as ones that are keto zeolets and the ones that are fat zeolets.

Explaining the health risks associated with being overweight need to be talked about, instead of this body positivity crap we have going on now.

This is a massive problem. Lizzo the Hippo does not need to be celebrated for being fat.
