I think the number of conservatives today who share views with nazis or the klan is similar to the number of liberals trying to convince their own or other people’s children that they are non-binary and should transition.

Because desecrating something that represents 350 million is far less egregious than desecrating something that represents 3 million. Makes sense to me.
Also, I find it interesting how hate crimes started out only being for actual violent crimes against the PEOPLE in those groups and have now spread to THINGS representing them. Not at all a slippery slope.

No. Stealing is taking with the intent to permanently deprive someone of the item. He actually did not do that. He badly soiled it, so the loss is the cost to have it cleaned. Barely a misdemeanor. Pretty much a civil matter.
