I hope you are right on that.

also... Full Gear is known as "Adam Page's show"... meaning it was his concept that the company ran with for a show theme

so it would seem somewhat fitting for him to have the match at Full Gear

though Arthur Ashe (in front of 18,000 fans) would still be my preferred choice if I was AEW or Page

I still think UDE could have been one of the best factions in WWE history on the main roster.

absolutely

a perfect faction to me is 1 where they can realistically hold every major belt in that promotion... and UDE had that in spades

Cole - top title
O'Reilly & Fish - tag title
Strong - mid-card title

WHO????

Trey Baxter typically wrestles on 205 Live (yes that's still a thing... shockingly)

and was in the Breakout Tournament on NXT the last few weeks... having beaten Joe Gacy in the quarterfinal before losing to Odyssey Jones in the semifinal

Man, Nick Khan made a frightening statement today.

When talking about how NXT is going to change, he said they are going to bring in hopefuls with no wrestling experience, and train them all the exact same way to fit the WWE style

A roster of people wrestling that baby poop soft Bray Wyatt/The Miz/ Kofi Kingston style would be horrifying.

they had a tryout in Vegas during the week...

reportedly they signed somewhere between 1/3 to 1/2 of the hopefuls who came out... seems like a lot

1 is immediately thrust into the top title picture

Because he’s a mainstream star that has a history with the champion and plenty of storyline options.

quote:

the other is nowhere near the top title picture and may never be in the title picture

Because he’s a niche Star who hasn’t been relevant in 7 years. Even then, his claim to fame was raging against the machine. But now what? What’s his gimmick? What’s his hook? What’s his draw? Yeah great he got that huge pop in his hometown. Cool. That was a great 5 minutes. But now what? He challenges someone out of the blue because??? There’s no narrative there. There’s no hype, no build. Just “Zomg!! It’s Happening!” IWC wet dreams. Becky and Brock have narrative elements to their returns, both for themselves and who they faced/faced off with. Hell even as bad as the Goldberg match was, the ending set up a narrative that just doesn’t impact them, but opens up possibilities for others too.

quote:

also... I doubt WWE had any plan to ever tell that story... they just lost Sasha to whatever her issue is and was like "we need a pop... quick send Becky out there"

Lol you really gotta stop reading the dirt sheets. Or at least separate the bullshite clickbait from reality.

if WWE had done its job over the last 10 years then Brock's part time contract wouldn't be needed

but since Vince is so stuck in his ways and doesn't want to try to invest in anyone who doesn't look a specific way... here we are having to rely on Cena, Goldberg, or Lesnar after babyface Roman Reigns flops

She lost within 30 seconds to one move. If that ain’t a squash, what is?

A squash to me is when the match is known ahead of time, hypes, and then someone systemically dominates their opponent for a few minutes, almost buries them if not outright. When Seth cashed in on Brock and Roman and hit two moves and won the title did you really consider it a squash? Hell by that standard almost all cash ins are “squashes”.

Let’s say the bell rang in this match and Bianca turned to the crowd to bask in the pop and Becky rolled her up for 3, still a squash? Goldberg squashed Brock a few years back. Bobby squashed Keith Lee. Hell Drew basically squashed Jinder on the same card. To me, there’s s big difference between a shocking surprise and a squash. Kane vs Chavo and Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan at WM were shocking surprises.

Money in the Bank... July 17, 2011... CM Punk defeats John Cena to win the WWE Championship on his final day under contract with WWE

July 18, 2011... 4.83 million people tuned into USA to see the fall out of that angle

what's been Roman's biggest rating as champion... on FOX???????

hint... half that

Becky said let’s tear the house down and beat her in under 30 seconds. It was dumb and I don’t know why you are so hellbent on defending it.

Legends have been coming back for years for all promotions.

But if you want to go that route, then if AEW would learn how to develop their own talent, they wouldn’t be relying on signing WWE also rans for cheap pop.

Going back further, if Cody had shown an ounce of his pops’ charisma while working for WWE, then AEW wouldn’t exist.

bad analogy... as the 2 had been wrestling a legit match for like 10 minutes before Seth cashed in and made it a triple threat

also... in most cash-in situations... the defending champion is not standing up staring down the challenger at 100% health when the bell rings... the champion is normally selling a previous match or beatdown or both

"Hangman" Adam Page is likely the next AEW World Champion

and MJF is likely to take the belt off of him

so where's the ex-WWE guys here?

I’m as disappointed as the next man that this probably means they don’t have anything for Adam Cole, K O’Reilly, or Gargano on the main roster….that is the biggest shitty thing about this.

Cole will have a place but let’s be honest, there’s a ceiling for guys like O’Reilly and Gargano and Vince isn’t the one putting it on them. It’s not just the look, it’s the aura. It’s the selling of the character, of the gimmick, not just with promos, but the way you carry yourself. Brock can talk but his voice doesn’t match his look, so why have him talk? He’s a beast. Come in like a titan, do titan shite, and leave.

Cena lived his character. He embraced it and owned it. Same with Austin, same with The Rock, same with Flair and Hogan and Undertaker. Cole doesn’t have it to that level, but he does have some sauce. Gargano and O’Reilly are talented wrestlers, no doubt there. But they aren’t superstars. Do you really think they can get 70-80k on their feet and invested at WM? I don’t. WWF built itself on being larger than life. And to do that you need the characters. You need the image. Yeah occasionally you’ll have a guy like Daniel Bryan and CM Punk who will hit a nerve and you can ride that wave, but those are blue moon guys. You can’t fill a stable with unicorns.

Almost forgot my picks:

Joe wins
Grimes wins
Gonzalez wins
Ilja wins
Kyle wins

To make it easy for points, the three title matches are worth 15 points, the 3 falls match is 20, and the Grimes - Knight match is worth 10.
