My dad recently had triple bypass surgery and had to replace a valve. He is 69 and appearance wise in great shape. He didn't have any symptoms, other than one incident of chest pain. He wants me to have the test. I am 41 and am overweight but outside of asthma and allergies I am in good shape. He said the stress test isn't difficult so can anyone that has had it give me your feedback? Yes I have discussed with my dad and will get it just want some opinions on others that have had it.

The nuclear test is for those unable to handle the tread mill. No reason not to discuss with a cardiologist the tests needed that may provide you with what you need.

No worries man. Other than difficulties breathing and being overweight you're freakin' awesome. Celebrate. Get a Burger King Black Burger.

I've had nuclear stress tests since 1997 after an angioplasty. When I was younger and didn't have knee problems I did the full out treadmill. I can tell you that you will work on that test.

The last one I took, this past May, I told my cardiologist that I didn't think my knees could take it. I was given a nuclear test that is much easier and I was able to walk on the treadmill without as much exertion because I got another injection that increases heart rate. It's a piece of cake.

You need to do it, especially with your family history. Good luck, Weaver.

You need to do it. It's not bad at all.

Also, I would suggest a CT scan so they can determine a calcium score.

What I mean by no issues is no high blood pressure or high cholesterol. I need to call my doctor anyway for my wellness visit so will see if I need to see a cardiologist. I don't think my knees will give me a problem.

Last one I went thru, I though I was going to die. It fired off my CRT-D. I will never do another.

For the record this is not correct. The radioactive isotope is introduced as a imaging mechanism not to bypass increased heart rate.

They will reasonably induce an increased heart rate either by way of you walking a treadmill or by chemically inducing it.

Perhaps u just need an echo or a heart scan.

I would love to know what some docs and even cardiologists thinks of heart scans? Essentially a high resolution CT scan of heart.

Ct scan for a calcium score? What is that for?

My dad had no symptoms so they just want to be sure that I don't have any clogged arteries. I am expecting that I will have some just because I don't have the best diet and don't exercise but have already made changes to my diet and am joining a gym so will start exercising. I just hope I don't need stints or surgery. Am expecting I may need to be on medication. Expecting the worst but hoping for the best. Genetics play a factor in this too.

To the best of my knowledge, it's basically taking a look at your coronary arteries to determine how much plaque is there. Only thing is its doesn't tell if the plaque is inside or on surface of artery. It's a good test, but most insurance doesn't pay for it yet. I just had my nuclear stress test done Monday, easy. And it's not for people who can't get on a treadmill. I'm 41 also & they had me running like Forrsest

I've never had the stress test but I have chemically increased my heart rate before and I highly recommend it.

It's not bad. Might make you a little nauseated or lightheaded for a few seconds, but the staff will give you a Coke or coffee after the test as the caffeine neutralizes the drug they give you for the test.

No kidding. If only taken once, what's more harmful? Cocaine, thallium, or lexiscan.?

I've had 3 or 4. I hate how they get my heart rate up to 180 -190 then shut it down and have me sit, feels like my freakin chest is gonna explode.

That's what I heard. On well I am sure I will endure worse things. I will do whatever option they think is best. Thanks for all of the help.
