They seem to be capable of doing that for football games.

Yeah, what happened to all of those campus sponsored events inside the PMAC where these things took place?
Some of you are too stupid to breathe.
Smart enough to recognize the OUTSIDE of a building ****.

part of the presentation was to say LSU was a testing optional school.
It seems as if LSU is exploiting black HS graduates. It's an easy money grab. Market easy entry and diversity, then take their TOPS money with the expectation that they'll drop out after first semester. LSU knows these kids will never make it to Junior or Senior year.
Sad...contact your reps and board of supervisors. The next Presidential hire is crucial..

Maybe it’s a reflection of the state they’re in

Whoever hired that performance should be fired immediately

Last week we had a whole thread about how awesome LSU used to be...beer trucks dropping off kegs all over campus, chicks in bikinis on all the fraternity house lawns, South Seas parties...nothing but 80s and 90s grads reminiscing about the good times.
Those same posters are INFURIATED by this display of debauchery taking down the reputation of their precious alma mater.

I think the distinction is school-sponsored vs. not-school sponsored. Were fraternities in the 80's and 90's doing all kinds of wild stuff? Of course. However, that was at a time without smart phones, social media, and the internet. It happened. Not just at LSU. But it wasn't broadcast to the world almost instantaneously.
LSU is in a constant battle with every other college to recruit good students. A video like this occurring at an on-campus party doesn't help LSU's image in that regard. We don't live in a world any longer where acts like this remain isolated. It reflects poorly on LSU's image/marketing

It's what brought our grandparents here in the 50s. What hurt is was trying to be something we weren't, instead of embracing what we are.

The school used to let the student orgs do this on their own. Now they don't. But the overall party hasn't changed.
Problem is Gen X parents who are now scared to let their kids do what they did (and since half this board is Gen X with poorly socialized kids, I'm sure I'll get grief for this).

Private businesses and organizations VS a state owned public school paying for it

The f&%k it doesn't!? Do you have any idea what a 17 year-old kid's priorities are when deciding where to go to school? If they're not getting into an Ivy or similar tier university, seeing a party like what was happening in that video would 100% be a MASSIVE feather in LSU's cap. They would see that video and think "f$%k yeah! I wanna go party THERE!"
We have seen a massive trend since Covid of Yankee teens wanting to flee the no-fun PC cultures of Northern colleges for the Southern party scene. They want to go somewhere that it's okay to drink, dance, and meet people of the opposite sex without being called a colonizer, a racist, a misogynist, and a potential rapist for just existing. Videos like this sell LSU as a beacon to those kids as a destination where they can have fun during their mandatory 4 years of online lectures, sparknotes, chat gtp essays, webassign homework, and incomprehensible ESL instructors.
LSU needs to stop pretending it's Harvard or MIT. It's LSU. EMBRACE being LSU. Embrace what makes you different from every other college in every other state.

While perhaps that is YOUR image for LSU, I can assure its not the image the school wants to present. There is a world of difference between marketing yourself as an elite institution (Harvard)...which LSU isn't doing, and marketing an image of looking like Atlanta Freaknik.

I agree. However, I believe that decision to be to their detriment. They straight up do not have the values, endowment, facilities, or partnerships to BE what they want to be perceived as. The reality is LSU is a value college. It’s draw is cheaper tuition than its academic peers while providing a good education FOR THE PRICE, but not an elite education overall. LSU has a few programs that punch well-above its weight class, but LSU is not a tier 1 or even tier 3 university. Trying to pretend that they are while suppressing what makes them attractive in the first place is a recipe for disaster. F. King Alexander’s reign of idiocy proved that in how his minions attempted to demolish Greek life and tailgating.
LSU’s administration forgets their customer base. Universities aren’t just a public service, they’re also a business with customers, assets, liabilities, revenues, and expenses. They are delusional and arrogant to the point of losing all touch with reality.

It's like some of you just blacked out for the last 150 years as to where LSU stands in the bigger picture of higher education.
LSU is not even competing with Tulane for elite students, or even UT or aTm. We're competing with Ole Miss and State.
It's cute that you think otherwise, or that the problem is now they're...gasp!...black.

saw more black kids on campus during move in weekend than I saw the entire time I was there for undergrad.
In April the Reveille ran a story about me and our restaurant in Liverpool, so I took my 5 yr old son to campus and to a baseball game.
I graduated in 08, and admittedly didn’t go to class much, but there were many for African-Americans than I remember. Took him to the quad, and saw no talent. It was definitely a different campus than I recall.

Under F. King Alexander, LSU made a concerted effort to court more out of state students, especially international ones. Under Tate, LSU made a concerted effort to recruit more black students, even going so far as moving to a "holistic approach" to enrollment standards as a way of lowering admissions standards for black applicants.
As a result, LSU's student body is now only 57% white when it was upwards of 80% 20 years ago. This demographic shift is very noticeable.
