That's promising.
That said, comparing daycares and schools is a little off.
Schools cram 25 kids per classroom.
Schools cram 300 kids in a cafeteria.
Schools cram 60 kids on a bus.
And schools dont have the resources to do any different (except for the cafeteria).
I'm hopeful for the fall semester.
But it wouldn't shock me if we get another clusterfrick like we did in the spring (despite the fact that we should be more prepared this time around)

Coupling this with scientific studies like the German Schools study is much more promising.
The biggest difference in Childcare/Daycare workers and teachers, however, is one is unionized and the other is not.

So I read this when it came out a few weeks back. And it’s a good system.
Herein lies the rub when you apply it to public schools:
- The Y can decide if your kid continually breaks their guidelines that they can drop your arse from coming back. Whether it’s COVID guidelines or just regular behavioral guidelines.
We already have parents fighting recommendations that if your kid has a fever he can’t return until cleared by a doctor. Public pressure won’t allow public schools to properly enforce this.

I know my district received about $30 million in CARES money. They had to spend half just to acquire disposable masks for students and staff. And Chromebooks for those wanting to use a virtual academy option. It’s going to cost a fair amount of money to really implement the guidelines that the Y has.
- The Y can limit the number of kids they accept. So they can easily reduce capacity to make social distancing happen.
Just a few things that are likely roadblocks to implementing that in public schools.

Teachers just don’t want to go back to work. Tell them they aren’t getting paid until schools reopen, or are getting paid less for “virtual” school and see what happens.
