It’s 6pm ET. I would have already eaten two meals back home in Louisiana, still waiting on this food to be ready, which will be bland as frick due to my wife’s family being super white / Irish. Also having sensory overload from more people than I’m used to for holidays.

At least there is a casino ~15 min away so I can go play some degenerate blackjack later

ETA BIL and SIL’s husband have been doing a science project with the turkey fricking around with a big green egg all day and the turkey apparently isn’t fully cooked at all…

One of the folks staying with us asked this morning if we had a bathroom “that wasn’t right off the kitchen.
That was code. He was telling you he’s a noisy nauseatingly stinky toilet plugging defecator who shouldn’t be allowed in a dwelling where food is cooked and eaten, much less actually “right off the kitchen.”

We had a family that didn’t show up and after an extensive investigation we find out “She’s” in jail.

Nothing too exciting here. Costco butterball fresh turkey had a solid block of ice in the center. Took a little bit to defrost it enough to clean it out.

I usually use an electric roaster, and this is my first time cooking a turkey in the oven. It's a 20lb bird and it's taking for-fricking-ever to come up to temp. The inner leg/thigh crevice will NOT come up to temperature. The skin is crisp, but even with the foil on the breast, it's starting to burn.

Huge pain in the arse and I doubt this thing is good.

Went to Thanksgiving at my brother's. No drama. Now visiting my dad who's doing inpatient rehab after having a pacemaker put in. Second Thanksgiving without my mother, first without my SO. Not easy, but I'm coping with it better than I thought I would.

My pregnant wife got pissy because I didn't get a plate of her banana pudding while we were crossing paths in the kitchen, thinking we were alone I said in a normal voice that I was gonna flop my banana in her pudding if she wasn't careful. Her nephew and her mom were right behind me.

I laughed waaay too hard at this

Everything went off without a hitch here, just lasted a little long.

No trash or drama to report... although the questionable pardons of Biden's turkeys did come up briefly.

You live in an apartment. What’s this about a house?

I wanted to but chickened out.

This bird sucks. I will never oven roast a turkey again. I might never cook one myself ever.

Pulled the turkey when the crevice said 165. Checked the breast with an instant read thermometer and its 194. The breast has had heavy duty foil on it since 1pm. Why the frick did the leg take so long? Why was there a huge block of ice in the crevice? Why did the other leg not take so long?

could be the oven
could be a frozen spot
could be bad juju

Oven roasting a whole bird is the worst method available regardless. Unless you brined it you are pretty much guaranteed to be disappointed

Spatchcock turkey in the oven is the best way to do it. Any other method comes out dry in the white meat

Correct. It’s not a big deal. $800 bucks for wife to be happy and two children to go to Disney for first time. No sweat. Some of yall sound like broke arse haters and terrible men. Happy Thanksgiving figs.

Plus you basically got to drop your nuts right on your shithead BIL’s face, Krystal style. I love a good wallet slap.
