I figure this is the reason. We’ll never see those big boxy dinosaurs anymore, like my grandmas boxy Oldsmobile with the incredibly long hood and incredibly long trunk and the V8.

I will say almost all the Audi's look alike. Just varying in size small, medium, and large.
Audi’s cars look almost identical to their VW counterparts, just have fancier lights. Same with Honda/Acura and Toyota/Lexus. Mercedes look distinctly Mercedes and Nissan has done pretty well distinguishing Infiniti lately. BMW and Porsche are and always have been distinctly their own.

My VW had an Audi engine. I wonder if any Audis had VW engines or if all VWs had Audi engines...

VW has one engine that it uses across many many platforms.
For instance Audi's that have used Lamborgini engines.
Huge company that benefits greatly from developing and perfercting one engine and applying it liberally.

I knew they were under the same parent company. I never bothered to find out if all the engines were branded with the Audi logo.

Biggest difference between VW and Audi is found in the interiors and the Quattro awd system. Otherwise, rebadged VW. Nothing wrong with that, both brands are nice and reliable.
