To the envy of plane-weary travelers everywhere, passengers aboard a Norwegian Airlines flight from New York to London on Jan. 15 were treated to a pleasant surprise: They arrived 53 minutes ahead of schedule, making theirs the fastest transatlantic flight ever recorded on a subsonic commercial aircraft. The final flight time: five hours and 13 minutes. The good time came thanks to better-than-expected weather conditions and a hefty tailwind, which helped the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner gain three minutes over the previous record, held by a 2015 British Airways route that spanned five hours and 16 minutes. Still, the Norwegian flight’s captain said an even-faster time may be in the cards.

Not an airline, but a Citation X would shatter that record in those weather conditions.

Would be cutting it close on range though.

Let me guess, then they sat on the runway for 30 minutes waiting for the other plane to leave their gate.

An inspection sticker checkpoint would've slowed them down.

Here’s a video of why the concord failed and why subsonic travel is capped at 613mph

The concord burned up a ton of fuel, like a per person of 14mpg. Where a 787 burns 104mpg.

Concord sat 100 where 787 sits 212. Many of concords flights weren’t full, and those that did have tickets were using vouchers and frequent flyer miles. So, they were losing a ton

Also didn’t help that a couple crashed. But hell, what do I know?

Boeing is still working on a super sonic transport.
Maybe in forty years we will have it.

Think that was final nail in the coffin, along with less demand for air travel after 9/11. Last flight was 3 years after crash and 2 years after 9/11

Concorde was a huge money loser. It was basically killed by the 747.

Now the 787 and 777 are killing the 747.

Didn’t one crash on takeoff and one on landing? I could be wrong.

Eta: I’m wrong. Just the one that took off.

Saw a 747 at SFO this weekend. It was converted to a cargo bird. Also saw an A380 for the first time in person. That's a big bastard.

Nobody ever says that on the internet. You were supposed to respond by telling me what an idiot I am.
