The company wants your contacts. That's it.

They know the vast majority of people will wash out of the business. College recruiting is just a way for these companies to tap into new leads.

I am 22 now and have already bought my own policy. I'm just saying who would want to talk to a 20 year old about the life insurance policy they should get when said 20 year old most likely knows nothing about life insurance.

We have the same friend. Seriously this is an excellent point and important consideration in taking the job.

I have a couple of these friends. It definitely cuts into friendships when they take it to an extreme level. I try and avoid these people at all costs now.

My agent works for NW. He's in his mid 40s and started straight out of college. He was not an athlete, but knew a lot of people...friends and family. He didn't treat anyone wrong and is honest. He hustled in the beginning now makes bank.

I love how Bill Whittle has all the former LSU athletes that don't make the pros pipelined into Primerica...

yep, lives across from my uncle in the U club, not that one should constitute success by living in the U-club... that is just my reference for factual purposes.

It's a great company. I did an internship there. If I was interested in sales as a career, I may have wound up there. I still use them extensively.

As for the pay, let me put it this way, while I was there, there were two 40ish guys who just joined the company full time that didn't have a sale in 3 months. A fellow intern had about 12-15. He made bank and took away some valuable skills. Whatever he does with his life, I doubt he'll ever be the full-time 40 year old that can't produce.

had a few friends that tried this out, think I know one guy that has stuck with it.

I get it that you will have a lot of money if you stick with it til you're 50, but I don't see how anyone in their 20s could make a living doing this.

My friends at the country club avoid this one guy for this very reason. I see him playing golf by himself quite often in the afternoons/evenings

a close friend of mine tried it out for 6 months, made some money but ended up having to split it with higher ups who were still "training" him or something like that so he told them to get fricked. He changed his number after the fact because his friends wouldn't answer his phone calls any more, assuming he was calling to sell something.


tl:dr don't do it.


A mentor friend of mine told me once that if the person interviewing you for a job is trying to sell you on said job, don't do it.

I' be surprised if the retention rate was that high....

* only 17% had 3-5 year retention rate
* you will have to sell all friends and family
* you will do nothing else but cold call people who don't want to talk to you
* you have the possibility to make decent money in 5-10 years if you're GREAT at sales and know many, many people.

NWM is a solid company, as life insurance companies go, but you have very little chance of success. If you're that good at sales, there are many other much more lucrative careers to pursue. Time spent at NWM will not be wasted as they do have a decent sales training program.

My view is that if a company is not willing to pay any base salary in training, it's a scam. They know the odds are stacked and not willing to take them.

This is not to say you can't make a great living there and lead a wonderful happy life, but you better be GREAT at cold calling, sales, community involvement, etc etc.
