You have a smart dog.

A stupid dog will fetch a stick when you tell it to fetch.

A smart dog will look at you as if it's saying, "fetch it yourself, you lazy bastard."

I have 2 golden doodles. One will fetch until you're tired of throwing. Smart as a whip.

The other one is a window licking tard but sweet as can be. He wouldn't fetch a steak if I threw it.

While I get what you’re saying, Golden retrievers (especially her type) are working dogs. It’s in their blood to want to do those things.

I'll trade you my lab-beagle mix who is so ball-retrieval crazy she's been known to bark to wake me up at 2:30 in the morning with a tennis ball in her mouth at the back door.

Know anybody that has one that retrieves? then get your dog around that dog. Let your dog see you throw something and have the other dog retrieve it. Sometimes they need to see it happen, help them remember their instincts

Yeah, my brother has a lab that is a psycho when he’s near a ball. They’re seeing each other this weekend.

Have you gotten her vaccinated?

She may have autism.

Maybe that’s an Aussie thing.

I’ve got two and both want me to throw toys but neither brings them back.

FYI I have a golden doodle that might be able to do algebra he’s so smart and he looks at me like I’m an a-hole when I try to get him to fetch.

They’ve got different personalities like any other mammal.

Have some experience here. The idea related to getting her around other dogs that will retrieve might work. The competitive gene may kick in.

I’ve had success doing this. You can tie some toy she likes onto a 6-8 ft rope and run around the backyard. Hopefully she will chase the toy. An excited verbal “hey, hey” can add to the excitement. If she will chase, get her really into it and let her get the toy. Then continue running and “heying” and see if she will chase you holding the toy. When she gets close, take the toy from her and repeat. After a few sessions of that, it should transition into picking up something you throw. You may still have to run and “hey” to get her to bring it to you/chase you. Try that.

Also, end the sessions while she is still wanting more. Don’t over-do it. You don’t want her to get bored or tired because she may associate that feeling with retrieving.

You can try a paint roller in hallway. One of the small ones. Only use it for retrieving and don’t give it to her any other time as a toy. But, as others have said, sometimes they just don’t have it in them. I have field trialed retrievers and every once in a while there will be one who doesn’t have the desire to retrieve.
