Is this the only, realistic or viable area, to raise a family in New Orleans?

Pull out a map. Look at whats called Lakeview, lakefront, lake vista. It's a pretty large area that is pretty much 95% white, especially Lakeview and everything on the lake side of Robert E Lee Blvd from the 17th street canal almost to UNO.
Alot of mid city has become much better too.

With all that being said, I'm really getting worried. Nola has been on a hell of a run since Katrina, and despite the ignorance displayed by the baws, the people and investments has been amazing.
This shite that has went on with Mitch and the latest crime spree can quickly turn into a death spiral.

45% of the city is now white and overall many things appeared to be getting better. The fcking scum cockroaches that make up about 5% of the population that raise their kids to be animals can sadly over power all of the good.

And don't try and push Jefferson Parish as a great place by any means. Metairie has had something like 10 armed robberies in the last 7 days.

NOLA's last stand: pressing issues

Yep, we have a frick-ton of problems in New Orleans.

Nevertheless, it's still better than the rest of the state of Louisiana combined.

So it's all the government's fault if I read you correctly. What about personal responsibility?

Obviously your ADD self must have glossed over my second point.

If that friend murders people at a rate higher than anyone else in the USA then I agree with you. What a dumbass comparison.

First off, I was replying to the OP and he listed 5 things wrong with NOLA in his opinion. Roads, corrupt govt, laziness, bad schools, no jobs. He never mentioned crime, so not sure why you mentioned the murder stuff.

Of course crime is bad and should be reduced in every city, not just NOLA.

What I'm saying is all those other things aren't a big deal for NOLA. The reason I know this is because if it was a big deal - NOLA would change. Like other cities around the country do. This is NOLA identity - at least the bad stuff. There are plenty of reason NOLA is celebrated and apparently that is enough for the city....Otherwise it would change. Its that simple. This is what NOLA wants to be. Good, bad , indifferent

Ah, I gotcha. My bad, and you are right. NOLA has never given a damn about the small stuff like roads etc which would be a huge issue anywhere else. Sorry.

No jobs. Big companies have fled the city.

I think this is really the driver of everything else. Less jobs means less educated people, means worse governance, means worse infrastructure, means more people leave, means worse schools, etc. etc. ... repeat

That's exactly what I'm saying. Great example. NOLA does not care about fixing the roads as much as comparable size cities with the same road issues. They would rather spend resources on throwing parades and building the tourism industry. That's NOLA identity. Just like a city such as Portland is known for certain liberal leanings and they are great at what is important to them. Just different philosophies. Again, not sure how you can argue if you look at the current condition of the city.

Only response is that NOLA really does care about the things the OP mentioned but just been incompetent for decades. But at the same time, just out of coincidence, if became one the premier travel destinations in the country with a world renown tourism industry? Is that what you are suggesting?

I just enjoy how most of the people with the biggest issues involving New Orleans don't even live there

That's because the people who live there are complacent as hell.

Why should it matter to those outside of the city? Because, as New Orleanians are always quick to remind us, the city is critical to the economic and cultural well-being of the state. NOLA is the most important city. So which is it... should we care, or not care?

The majority of people who comment on it on here don't live there and blow things out of proportion

A lot of snow birds own second homes here and I'm pretty sure a majority of the people who comment own here would not be able to afford to buy in second teir neighborhoods like Bywater and parts of Mid City.

My parents own a condo here in the WHD where they may visit a dozen times a year, usually for big events. In that same 8 plex, only two people live there full time, both are renters. All the rest are owned by folks that use the place as a vacation get away.
