Barely raining in Garden District.

But I'm sure we'll get flash floods warnings every drop of water now .

Here is how I think it all went down:

Cedric Grant grant calls Landrieu in Aspen as he is interviewing for the Aspen Institute job and tells him the city is flooding and that a number of the pumps are out.

Landrieu tells Grant to tell public that all of the pumps are working and that this is a function of "Climate Change". The Climate Change position is a total disaster statement as photos of the pumping stations being off-line are circulating on social media coupled with water not draining at all.

Landrieu throws a bone to Grant to allow him to resign with the lofty pension instead of actually testifying and throwing himself on the sword for the Climate Change remarks.

Grant tells Landrieu we can put Becker up there to testify. They are firm with Becker on towing the company line all the time knowing that Becker will be blown up if he testifies by the community. Becker starts out towing the company line that Landrieu & Grant laid out for him but isn't astute enough to dodge the political questions coming after him. The black community will see Becker as one of those corrupt white suit guys and Becker played into that when he started off towing the Mitch/Grant line by lying. After that Becker was screwed and there was no way out of it for him.

I'm also suspecting that Jason Williams or James Gray were given the kill order if Becker screwed up when testifying today which he did. Once the kill switch was hit Becker was roasted, Grant was given an all clear, and Landrieu walks away with points for firing him. The Williams/Gray thing might not have initially been in on it but by the half-way point they cut Becker lose and fed him to the wolves.

Beyond all the other ridiculous facts in this debacle, one thing keeps nagging me.
Nearly every story on this topic has quoted "nearly 10 inches of rain" but nobody cites a source. Does anyone else find it a little strange that they are all quoting this crazy high number with no backup?

People should really be going crazy about the municipal water system that has been leaking like a sieve for years.

Here's the fricked up part: Those leaky pipes actually help keep the groundwater recharged, to an extent, and help slow subsidence. Even more fricked up, SWB + DPW's broken drainage pipes drain the ground water and then pump it out 24/7. New Orleans is paying to drain groundwater and recharging it with potable water. It's a cluster on a massive scale. The experts know the problem. The experts have given solutions. The politicians have failed to sell it because of bad PR and the citizens have stuck their heads in the sand on it. It frustrated me to no end when I worked there, and it still frustrates me from afar.

Get your shite together, New Orleans. Blacks, whites, Vietnamese, liberals, conservatives, whatever. Your city is sinking both literally and figuratively.

The National Weather Service extended its earlier flash flood warning to 8:30 p.m. for New Orleans, Metairie and Kenner, and estimated 5.40-inches of rain fell over the city's Downtown Observation in a four-hour period.

WWL-TV reported a similar total -- 5.54-inches -- falling around St. Augustine High School, and City Hall recorded 5.21-inches.

I don't think it'll make a difference if it floods again... I thought it had already been towed

You are correct. Many pumps are on an entirely different electricity grid than the municipal Entergy grid, hence the turbines and power house at the Claiborne plant.

In 190whatever 110 volt 60 Hz power hadn't won out yet apparently and most of the old pumps operate on something like 25 Hz power from what I remember. It was fine at the time since the those old wood screw pumps are low head, low rpm, but...now it is very inefficient on top of the fact that most of the turbines on Claiborne are broken most of the time.

Dude my bad

that thread was my first experience with any type of flooding event. I was legitimately panicked ESP when the rain didn't recede for nearly two hours after it had stopped
