LINK

I think the guy has done a good job in an awful environment. It will take decades to turn around decades of neglect and incompetence, and I think he's on the right path. I'm sure he deserves his good evaluation.

But a 30K pay raise? What? How tone deaf are these clowns? This is an agency that still is having billing issues and has a backlog of work.

didn't they just have a sonic boom explosion at one of their locations less than 45 days ago? not saying it's his fault but the optics of this are pretty bad looking tbh

Thought he was already paid higher than expected.

Maybe there were milestones to hit and he did.

Havent heard near the complaining about the billing. Two years ago that was a complete shitshow.

In fairness, being the first guy in 100 years to think about clearing out the drains was pretty sharp on his part.

I had the same last year. They reverse it in the following month typically. Makes that cash flow looks good temporarily. You can request an Administrative Hearing if you want to yell at some bureaucrat, which at best is only therapeutic.

The guy is the best employee anywhere in city government, and he has an unbelievably miserable job.

If they hope to ever turn the organization around, they cannot lose someone like him to private industry.

Seriously, if Grant was making 210K, he was overpaid by 210K.

Can you imagine working with the morons over there and then having to deal with the public for the work your morons just finished. I wouldn't take that job for $750k a year.

Ah, didn't do the math, just read the what they wrote. 11% would seem to be closer to the top end for exceeds without doing anything extraordinary.

He got a raise that is given to all S&WB employees after their first year, plus the 8.8% for his performance evaluation. Those raises totaled 11%.

However if you are looking for a debate..here are a few comments from the interwebs....knock your self out

quote:

This small article about S&WB Executive Director Ghassan Korban's 8.8% raise. On top of his $271,666 annual salary, that works out to just over $23,900.

There are over 60 S&WB employees whose annual salary is less than Korban's raise. Also, he led an organization whose performance last year included ten boil water advisories, overtopping of a drainage canal because the canal was - and remains - clogged with over 20,000 tons of debris, multiple rain events with over 20 pump outages each (most of which went unreported in state-mandated reports), and at year's end, the destruction by explosion of a 20 megawatt turbine-generator followed by a month of silence on exactly what is being done to make up the shortfall before the rains come in the spring.

Leadership!

quote:

- Executive Director Ghassan Korban was given an 8.8% raise over his $265,000 salary, which works out to a little over $23,000.

- Executive Director Korban announced S&WB was bringing back the annual employee awards banquet, an event labeled as a likely violation of the state constitutional prohibition on donation of public resources by the Louisiana Legislative Auditor in November, 2018. The last time the event was held before this year was 2016. In prior years, tens of thousands of dollars were spent on service awards like gold and silver watches and rings. Korbam said nothing about how they planned to address the Legislative Auditor's findings, and no one on the Board asked.

- Documents were published showing revenues for the S&WB through November were up 17% and expenses were down 13% compared to the budget. In other words, they have much more cash than they expected.

- Executive Director Korban announced they don't have enough money to pay for a root cause analysis of the explosion of turbine 5 last December, saying doing so would cost too much and would only turn up things they already know. Limiting the investigation also insulates top SWB leadership - including Korban and the Board - from being fingered as a root cause. No one on the Board had any comments or questions about this.

Why not? You can be bad at it and be handed a nice paycheck.

All you have to say is "well the #2 pump may or may not have been operational. We don't really know and will have to conduct a post-incident study".....
