Where were the rest of the council members?
The meeting was adjourned before the statements on the monuments started. I'm assuming they left.

Is that THE welfare queen "shut up white boy" bitch?
No, Sandra Wheeler-Hester is a local curmedgeon who used to have a talk show on the public access station. She hates politicians, the black reverends who drive fancy cars, and especially the school board and administrators. One time she drew a jail window with Colonel Davis looking out. Another time she dedicated most of the show to giving Carolyn Green-Ford personal hygiene tips

White people put up with a lot of bullshite, and they deal with their taxes paying for these bums. They are not going to pay reparations. If they come asking me for it they will get a big middle finger right to their face.

They're trying to rename a traffic circle. Who gives a shite?
I do. I was born in New Orleans. Someone at the meeting said to rename it for Obama and got rousing cheers.
All of this is divisive insanity started by Mitch.
Mitch needs to go and the statues need to stay.

It's not him, it's all the Democrats. They all stick to this same tired, frustrating, frankly gross narrative about the evil white man and how white males are responsible for all of the world's ills, and if you just keep on voting Democrat they'll put the white man in his place. And who can blame them? It works!

The Civil War was ultimately about the state's right to choose its own policy.
And the most important of those policies wasn't slavery?

What kind of self important prick goes to a city council meeting to argue for taking down century old monuments after living in the city for a year and a half??

Look, slavery was bad. You're not going to find any serious, educated person who could ever argue that slavery was a good thing. But it happened, and the fact that it happened and was bad doesn't mean that there isn't a tasteful way to memorialize southern history, and it doesn't mean that it's right to blame the white man for all of society's ills which if you watched that meeting tonight is exactly what this is really about-not the statues.

You know what? I used to vote democrat. I favor personal freedom and I don't favor the GOP stance on some big issues. But frick this, I'm done with the democrats too. No more. I'll vote libertarian or some other third party. I can't accept the constant drumbeat of racism and gays and victimhood. I'll vote Trump over Hillary and Mitch is a POS. The democrats always chasing the minority vote while marginalizing folks like me.

I'm not arguing with you on that. I'm from Nola and no one I know even gave the statues a second thought until Mitch brought it up. I genuinely don't know much civil war history. I like medieval European much more.

Why has no one said this yet:
Under the American Flag after the civil war slavery remained.
Lincoln himself thought of black people as lesser than white.
Under Washington and our founding fathers Indians and slaves and any non white Christian males were persecuted.
We should not pick and choose what parts of history to remember.
In America's history we have persecuted:
CAnt even cut/paste all that shite; but you should run for office, bra

It's so fricking sad that you are this delusional, and worse that you are so self assured about this idiocy that isn't even close to being true.
Read a real history book. Something like apostles of disunion, hell read some primary sources because what you just said would be laughable if it wasn't so pitiful.
Abraham Lincoln on black people and slavery:
"I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races, that I am not nor ever have been in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And in as much as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race. "
Learn from history. Do not erase it.
Many southern state leaders, and General Lee himself, saw an end to slavery. They admitted before the war started that slavery was a vile and evil institution and it could not be sustained in America and it should be ended. But the wanted to end it on their own terms.
In the 1800s the federal government didn't exist as we know it today. You wouldn't even recognize it. They fought a war trying to keep the state government powerful.
We were founded as a union of states with a small federal government. The founding fathers wouldn't approve of or even recognize the government we have today.
Are there many out there who can honestly say they are proud of and support the expanse of the federal government?
Yes, the civil war happened at the same time that slavery was am issue in this country, but it was not the issue of the civil war.
Civil War was not fought to preserve slavery. And after the civil war was over, slavery remained accross the nation. Blacks didn't even get the right to vote accross the country until 100 years later. The North didn't free their slaves during or immediately after the war.
But you can't fight ignorance. And it's hard to change a movement.
And what we have in this country is a movement of ignorance. A willing and aggressive movement to de-educate our youth and destruct our nation.
Now more than ever we need to come together and move forward as a nation and a people.
We aren't black or white or Hispanic or gay or straight or Christian or Muslim. We are American. And this is our history. And we need to learn from it and build on it or we are doomed to repeat it.
