FLOOD ADVISORY
ISSUED: 2:02 PM AUG. 12, 2020 – NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE
The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued a
* Urban and Small Stream Flood Advisory for...
Northwestern Jefferson Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
Southwestern Orleans Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
Northwestern Plaquemines Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
Western St. Bernard Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
Central St. Charles Parish in southeastern Louisiana...
* Until 400 PM CDT.
* At 202 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to
thunderstorms. This will cause urban and small stream flooding.
Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen.
Some locations that will experience flooding include...
New Orleans, Avondale, Marrero, Metairie, Harvey, Timberlane,
Belle Chasse, Hahnville, Jefferson, Gretna, Harahan, Westwego,
Waggaman, Bridge City, Elmwood, River Ridge, Ama, St. Rose,
Estelle and Woodmere.
Additional rainfall of 1 to 2 inches is expected over the area. This
additional rain will result in minor flooding.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood
deaths occur in vehicles.
Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of small
creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses
as well as other drainage areas and low lying spots.

Flooding in Avondale? Color me shocked. It literally flooded every time it rained when I lived there as a kid in the 70’s and 80’s.

Last time we did that, the "boost" stayed and ruined some decent neighborhoods.
