What's fricked up is that NOLA East has a decent street grid and relatively easy access to the employment centers.
It's just one of those mid century developments that depended on decent community schools, which disappeared in the urban south in the 1960s.

I don't know how I lived.
in my early 20s I used to walk home from the French quarter, through the bywater, at like 2am-4am highly intoxicated and all decked out in my satanic gothic metal get-up.
I don't know how I made it through without any life threatening confrontations.

The ghetto shithole areas often have great infrastructure. It's criminal that decent people are forced to live in the suburbs and commute in traffic when the prime real estate is given to the trash.
