On July 31st, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) the no-smoking ban became effective for anyone living in public housing can across America. When the urge hits you to reach for a tobacco product of your choice, you must now smoke it at least 25 away from your home or administration building

quote:

Lakara Augustus is one tenant in Bessemer who isn't too thrilled. Augustus says, "I really don't think it's fair. I really don't. Because people gonna smoke regardless."

quote:

"You (are) putting people out in the rain and in the heat. Don't nobody wanna sit out in the rain and heat," Augustus says.

quote:

A 2014 CDC report says it will save housing authorities $153 million in annual repair and health care costs.

quote:

Augustus says even as a mother of three, with two children five years old and younger, it should be up to the resident of the home. "I used to smoke back in the day. If i'm gonna smoke 'hey child you need to go play or be in your room. You don't need to be around us smoking'."

IMO, if you don't like it, go find your own apartment. If you can afford cigarettes, you can afford some of life's necessities, instead.

Should build big public work camps to tackle big projects and Any able bodied person that wants welfare can go there and be taken care of in exchange for work.

They could build roads and pick vegetables and all sorts of things.

Won’t be able to collect the fines but hopefully they reduce future “paydays” or after a certain number they aren’t eligible for housing.

Entitled idiots. If you can afford cigarettes and to ruin your free housing, then you can live somewhere else

Why wasn't this done decades ago?

It's not your home. It's the Government's. You wanna do as you please? Get own place!

In two years time, this will be the subject of a John Oliver piece that claims it unfairly victimizes black people. Book it.

Then don’t smoke. Almost anyone who rents (and actually pays for their own rent) isnt going to be allowed to smoke inside their apartment or rental house. And if they do it anyway, the landlord is gonna take it out of their deposit for cleaning costs to get the smell and all that residue off everything....or they may get evicted if they got warned enough times.

Buy your own house if you wanna smoke inside
