Have you ever used birth control outside of a condom or diaphragm?

Yes, because birth control is inherently different from contraceptives.

So you're arguing that the only means of "birth control" should be a condom, the pull out method, or a diaphragm?

Yes many people are including couples that go the invitro route where 1.5 million embryos get destroyed every year in that effort. Do you take issue with them as well?

I only read the first two paragraphs, but I said this in an abortion thread the other day.

Its not about our views on the issue, its about the reality of the situation. If it is made illegal, while not as many would have an abortion, it will still be done.

Not to mention, if you are not a woman why should this even concern you?

All I know is that this shouldn't be an issue people use to decide who they will vote for for president. Also, its pretty arrogant to think that the country should be governed based on YOUR beliefs.

So I have another question for you (based on your definition).

Do you believe that women shouldn't be allowed to have surgery for an ectopic pregnancy? By your definition, it's a zygote that has implanted in (more often than not) the fallopian tube.

What basis is there for any laws if you use that logic

While I wholeheartedly agree with you - there are just too many people who will do what they want no matter what

Science also proves that a bullet to the heart or head can be fatal. But look at Chicago, New Orleans, or Memphis. Overdosing and drinking and driving also cause death - we still have a lot of that.

If people don’t see that life is precious in any form, then they won’t have respect for the smallest

Because if it were illegal many women would die getting back alley abortions.

Yes. it is all about not wanting to take personal responsibility. HAs nothing to do with "my body my choice." Science proves it isn't just their body. That baby in the womb has a different DNA than the mom and no one will ever have that DNA again. It is because they don't want a baby but want sex without the product of sex.

Pregnancy does not begin at conception and personhood does not begin at pregnancy. The former is science and the latter is theology and open to debate and has no scientific answer.

I am 100% pro choice, but this is a true statement. Either back alley, or head to Mexico/Canada.

This argument has always confused me.

First, isn't thinking that the country should be governed a certain way basically what a political opinion is in any sense? If you are speaking strictly to religious beliefs, then what religious beliefs by the pro-life side are being imposed on the pro-choice side?

Second, the primary part that is up for debate is when life begins. After that point, it's pretty widely accepted that killing living humans in general is against the law. This is strawmanning a bit, but we don't go around saying that you have the right to kill your 4 year old. That is widely accepted as illegal. Regardless if the person arguing pro-life is a guy or girl, if their foundation in their argument is that they truly believe that this is happening after the beginning of life, then it's wrong to them and they have a moral obligation in their eyes to speak against it. Because of that, I completely understand their general stance on this.

The one thing I don't really get is why the legislation trying to be repealed or implemented (depending on the area) does not consider protections for mothers who are at risk or other situations like that. That is something that I do not get.

In the case of an ectopic pregnancy I think the definition provided still applies. I believe there are remedies for this and most ectopic pregnancies miscarry early regardless. One common method is autotransfusion. This method has almost no complications seen in patients and can be practiced easily by most surgical departments.

I'm not sure where you get your information, but most ectopic pregnancies do not miscarry early in. It's actually the opposite.

From the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists:

quote:

July 2010

Ectopic pregnancy refers to any pregnancy that is implanted outside the uterus, most commonly in the fallopian tube. By the time an ectopic pregnancy has been discovered (usually by 7 to 8 weeks gestation) the embryo has died in the majority of cases. However, the supporting tissues for the pregnancy often continue to grow and can cause life-threatening bleeding, either through rupture of the fallopian tube or other mechanisms. In a small number of cases a living embryo can be observed in the ectopic pregnancy. Unfortunately, this embryo will die in the near future if observation is continued, and the mother’s life remains in imminent danger from a life-threatening hemorrhage, before and after the death of the embryo. Continuation of such a pregnancy cannot result in the survival of a baby and entails a very substantial risk of maternal death or disability. Hence treatment is commenced to end the pregnancy surgically or medically. In certain cases, an additional benefit of early treatment may be preservation of fertility potential

quote:

For these reasons the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians recognizes the unavoidable loss of human life that occurs in an ectopic pregnancy, but does not consider treatment of ectopic pregnancy by standard surgical or medical procedures to be the moral equivalent of elective abortion, or to be the wrongful taking of human life.

Am i supposed to feel bad for women that die while attempting to murder their unborn child?

I don’t know, feel however you want, I’m just saying that if it were made illegal many women would in fact die in “back alley” abortions.
