These dudes got their big start in Richmond, CA and carried a heavy west coast sound. Listen to TRU "Westcoast Badboyz" as well as some compilations they did such as Down South Hustlers (as they progressed to NOLA area). The original crew was Master P, Silkk, C Murder, King George, Big Ed, and Cali-G. Serv-On, Mia X, and Kane and Abel became part of the clique. Once they moved to NOLA, the whole game changed for them.

Their early albums were all pretty legit. I think once P released "The Last Don", the whole crew became a joke. C Murder was pretty legit and Silkk's first album was very good.

Then, they signed Mystikal and Snoop and somehow that did not help them much.

From 1993-1997, these dudes were legit in the rap game. By 1998, they were on Carson Daley's show and on radio just too much.

Yep.

I still listen to that west coast No Limit. Those tapes went hard.

P saw a gold mine down here with a void in the rap world, so he moved back here and stole the phrase "I'm bout it" from UNLV and Cash Money records and his song blew up. On a video from last year, you can hear Mannie Fresh while DJing shout "frick Master P" because of that whole situation.

I disagree. 98-01 was a good time for No Limit.

That's my family! The buildings are named for each of my cousins and one is my aunt's married surname.

A buddy of mine worked in the building where no limit had an office. He witnessed C murder get into a hit and run wreck at the intersection right by the building outside my buddy's office window. He saw C get out of the car and run into the building. True story. This was 98 or 99.

I used to work at Foot Locker as an assistant manager across from the Chimes outside LSU Gates on Highland while I was at LSU and those guys would come in on the reg to buy new "fits" to play basketball at the rec. I met all the crew (including Snoop Dogg) at one time or another. I got to know Silk to the point he gave me his cell # to call him when new shite came out, especially the Jordan's.

I used to make a killing with them when the new Jordan's would come out. They'd always come in early and pay double + in cash. I'd hang onto the bar codes/boxes and ring them up on the day the shoes were to come out and pocket the rest. Made lots of money in cash + commission during those periods.

IIRC, Mystikal was the most "regular" shopper of the bunch, but they'd usually come in as an entourage. I remember P coming in once and buying everybody's stuff. It was probably a $2-3K sale. At least one time, they changed clothes at the store and left to go play hoops. I helped pick up some their old clothes from the dressing room and could tell the shorts or pants had a gun in them.

I just know some people from uptown from way back who told me some things like Baby getting slapped by Yella Boy and shooting up all his cars because he was owed money.

One of the coolest dudes I met from this time was Soulja Slim in 2001on SU campus. He handed me his single from The Streets Made Me cd and we talked for a second. I saw him again at a gas station and there was guy at a gas station at that time who didn't have enough money at the gas station, so Slim filled the dude's tank up for him. He was cool, but I heard it got bad real fast for you if you got on his bad side.

Still waiting to the answer to my question? What positive influences did these losers have or bring to Baton Rouge? What great things did they leave behind there?

Guess they helped out the 'profiling' problem if nothing else.
