The cop should not have shot the kid, it would have been a better idea to just shoot his tire(s).



The kid was clearly not trying to run him over.

Two different questions IMO.

1) Should a police officer, acting as an arm of the government, shoot someone in that situation - No.

2) Did the guy "play stupid games" here and "deserve" the results in some common sense, don't do dumb shite sort of way? Yeah, probably.

I think it's easy for us to say, watching the video in hindsight (and the one in the OP says it's a slow-motion video, even though I'm not sure). I could see where the cop could think that if the kid makes a hard left turn while he's standing next to the car that he could hit him with it. I saw a guy get caught up under someone's wheel that way at about the same distance and it broke both of his legs.

Also to those who said he should've waited for backup, apparently he WAS the backup:
