whats the next 30A?

If you're seeking a quiet beach community that isn't overflowing with tourist trash and has a distinct local feel, then Port St. Joe Beach and Apalachicola are the destination for you.

They won't be the next 30A, it's already better. 30A has turned into a bunch of instagram millionaires that went in with 15 other people to rent a house for a week so they can post pictures of their mimosas on the eagles nest.

In an ironic twist of events, PCB is easily a more family oriented destination now than Destin

Best place out that way is Grayton Beach

Went offshore once out of there. Capt launched the boat from the beach. I was like WTF. Cool area but wasn't sure if I would like the drive to do shite. Even though Destin is massively congested in the Summer months, you have much more stuff to do there.

Pretty sure this happens to every destination in Florida. Initially, an area is nice and it is more expensive to visit. Then capitalism introduces Motel 6, Waffle House, and Wal-Mart and every redneck wants to visit. Just ask Fort Meyers, Fort Lauderdale, Daytona, Panama City and now Destin. You go back all the way to the 70s/80s and see the trend. 30A, you're next.

I haven't been to Destin since 2005, but it was the crowds that finally did me in. Not the trashiness, just the shear volume of people. Moved around some, mostly Perdido Key, but also Gulf Shores, PCB, & Dauphin Island.

Been renting a house on the west end of DI the last 2 summers and I wouldn't trade it. My own beach, no trash, no cigarette butts, no canopies, no lines, no helicopter flyovers. I know it's not as top shelf as some of you ballers like but it works for me.

But I dont want to do stuff. I just want a round of golf or two and clean pretty water and beach umbrella.

Yes, if you get a permit you can drive on the beach to set up your stuff or launch a boat. Not too many out there, and the beach isn't that crowded, so it's not a problem. You can also have bonfires out there, but you have to pay someone else to do it.

And having more to do in Destin is no reason, at least not for me, to spend time in Hwy 98 traffic as bad as rush hour in Baton Rouge. The last time I did that even my kids wanted to leave. Besides, it's a short drive to Destin anyway if you really want to shop or go to Big Kahuna (ack!).

I just got back from four days there.

I agree, anytime we went out there it was like being in Carmel-by-the Sea or LaJolla.

No riff raff.

Our accommodation was a 5 BR, 5 BA with it’s own pool and a carriage house.

Worth north of $3 large.

It was also a target rich environment (talent-wise).

Rosemary definitely avoids that white trash contingent but seems susceptible to that “I wish I were on the housewives of Orange County” population

Both are terrible.

Destin was a redneck fishing paradise with a Motel 6 and Waffle House long before the condo developers arrived and tried to make it a upscale luxury destination
