Do you think they will make hydrogen from natural gas somehow so that refueling stations could be put almost anywhere a NG line is? Will a fueling station actually break down the NG molecule and compress the H2 for refueling?

For you engineers, whether from natural gas or water, isn't energy going to have to be pumped into the system before hydrogen ever comes out?

There are 39 stations in the US. All but 4 are in California. Infrastructure isnt there yet but will be. Get an EV now and look at hydrogen the next time you need a vehicle

Yes.

Hydrogen isn't so much a "fuel" in this context as it is a storage method.

This is why the idea of a "water powered" engine is pure nonsense. To do anything with water, you'd first have to separate the hydrogen + oxygen atoms, which requires energy. Once you've done this, you could recombine them (combustion). The problem is that you won't ever get more energy from the combustion than it took to separate the molecules in the first place (first law violation). In fact, you won't even get the same amount back, you will get less (second law).

At some point in the not so distant future we will be talking about large amount of spent heavy metal batteries that we have no good way to deal with.

It's our one way ticket to midnight.

water fueled engine, I think they'd have everyone's attention as that would be the greatest invention,

Right up until the water police start limiting you on 1 fill up per week and only on Tuesdays if your tag number ends in an odd number and Saturday if even number.

Nikola

I think someone needs to trademark Tesla's middle name. Could be some profit there. Maybe check out Thomas, Edison, Benjamin, Ben, and Franklin too.

I like the fuel cell concept a lot. Do you think they will make hydrogen from natural gas somehow so that refueling stations could be put almost anywhere a NG line is? Will a fueling station actually break down the NG molecule and compress the H2 for refueling?
The current H2 fueling stations are treated similar to a gas station. Hydrogen is made at a liquid hydrogen production plant (i.e. Refinery for Gas), trucked to the refueling station, pumped into the holding tanks. All very similar supply chain as gas. It looks like Nikola wants to have all their hydrogen stations be fueled by "green" hydrogen which is a lot more expensive than the convention way we produce hydrogen today with Natural Gas.

The largest liquid hydrogen plant in the world in New Orleans so if this ever caught on, we'd have some pretty cheap H2 in the Gulf Coast.

Is Nikola just a cheap knock off of Tesla, because I’m here for this brand battle

I wouldn't call it the cheap/knockoff Tesla, but they are a relatively new company (2014) trying to compete in that same arena but mostly focusing on Semi trucks.
