I'd rather see a truck that runs on 100% ethanol. Our farmers can raise plenty corn for fuel. If a company can ever create an engine that will run on water, then you will have my attention.

If someone created a highly efficient water fueled engine, I think they'd have everyone's attention as that would be the greatest invention, arguably, in the history of mankind

Similarly priced to cybertruck, better looking aesthetically, and has a greater range. Are hydrogen fuel stations as widely available as Tesla charging stations?

Nikola H2 stations planned

I'm not sure if hydrogen is available elsewhere. Refuel time wasn't long on their tractor trailers, says less than 15 min

That's the smart question that hasn't been answered yet.

Because it will increase demand for rare and toxic metals to a very high degree.

Is this really worse than the demand created for toxic chemicals by gasoline automobiles?

Then they will have found a way to violate the first law of thermodynamics.

getting the cost of hydrogen “fuel” down to about $6 per kilogram, said Kim Brady, Nikola’s chief financial officer.

8kg tank, so $48 for 300 miles if they get cost down. With todays gas cost, I can get that in my f150 for less $40

I like the fuel cell concept a lot.

Do you think they will make hydrogen from natural gas somehow so that refueling stations could be put almost anywhere a NG line is? Will a fueling station actually break down the NG molecule and compress the H2 for refueling?

I don't think anyone knows the answer to this yet. Just wait until we have to dispose of these batteries in huge quantities. Just think the first big wave of cars that need batteries changed.
My wife worked in Lithium transport for quite some time. Its 1000 x's nastier than oil, but they aren't sure just how toxic "wasted" lithium is in mass quantities just yet.

What could possibly go wrong with a fuel cell.

That's the thing. I think they are playing the long game here, planning on selling the vehicles at a loss so they can sell you the fuel on the back end. That's a risky play on them and their customers.
