I don't ever recall anyone saying that nicotine causes cancer. The criticism of nicotine is that it is a stimulant that is addictive. The cancer is caused by inhaling the burning tobacco, caramel coloring and other additives in cigarettes. The role of nicotine in the cancer is that you crave the addiction and keep coming back for the smoke to get your fix.
To focus solely on nicotine and cancer is disingenuous.
